PHP Study Group Meetup (Weekly Chapter Review)

We are thankful to CPC Strategy for providing the space for us to do our PHP San Diego Study Group at their offices every week.

The group will be reading one or two chapters out of a more advanced PHP book every week and going over chapter by chapter with each meetup until we've gone through the whole book and move on to the next.

Would it be appropriate for me to attend this meet up if I am just starting out in PHP?

I am just getting started as well, this is a great group actually. You can see the meeting notes but we just started something new and everyone is very helpful. We are going to be building a URL shortener and following https://www.youtube.co... the PHP Academy videos. The group ranges from people who literally just picked PHP up to people who use PHP every day.

I would like to request that we open up this meetup's discussion board so that we can start creating specific topic discussions and posting to them, rather than posting comments to the actual meetings .. that way we can follow the discussions we want to rather than receive emails based on meetups we attended .. hopefully that makes sense.

Thanks to everyone that came out to the last study group. We've continued to refine the format of the meeting to make sure everyone is getting value and it is as interactive as possible.

For those who haven't didn't make we will be working through the first four videos of this project from PHP Academy (free, https://phpacademy.org/course/php-url-shortener-tutorial ). If you're planning on coming to the next study group please take a look at the videos and come with questions in hand for discussion.

We'll discuss our progress on the code, any issues we ran into, and possible ways to re-factor it to use OOPHP in the next meeting.

We're also looking at Pro PHP (http://www.amazon.com/Pro-PHP-Patterns-Frameworks-Testing/dp/1590598199) as the book we'll use moving forward. I'll read through it between meetings and let you know my thoughts on whether it's suitable for us. Open to other thoughts/suggestions on books as well.

    Thanks again and happy coding

Hey gang - I haven't been able to make this weekly chapter review meetup yet but am planning on being at the next one. I was wondering what the book was that we will be reading out of (and I understand that a new book is on the horizon, and if so, what is that book?) Thanks, looking forward to meeting everyone.

Hey guys, not sure if this book would be too far on the beginner side of things but it looks like they do have projects in each of the sections that we would be able to build on. http://www.headfirstlabs.com/books/hfphp/

I have never used this series of books but has anyone else? Might be worth a look.

I was going to buy that book, but it's 4 years old (Dec 2009). I bought this one, but it's not building toward anything. It's a lot of code snippets. http://www.amazon.com...

I noticed that the study group meetups for 2/11, 2/18, 2/25 are no longer on the calendar. Have they been cancelled?

The one for the 11th is still on for today, that was my fault. I'm sending out an email right now to explain to everyone and let everyone know what we are doing moving forward. I apologize for the mixup...
