ed's waterfront run

Hi,

My name is ed and I will be your host for ed's waterfront run: embarcadero edition; a friendly, welcoming environment where joggers, speedsters, and everyone in between can meet others who share their love (or hate) for running :)

It's called the Waterfront Run for two reasons. One is that this scenic route runs along the beautiful San Diego Harbor, through Seaport Village and the Embarcadero. But secondly, and more importantly, it's the name of the real highlight of this run: the Waterfront Bar and Grill. It's located two blocks away from the start/finish of the run. We'll be going there after the run for $1.50 fish tacos, refreshing drinks, and Good Times with Good People. You could even be the new "closing champion"!

There are three variations of this run that loosely correspond to different levels of fitness. A core workout is to follow when everyone returns. Please take a look at the maps if you are new to the run.

  • The Waterfront "3" Route is a 2.7 mile beginner-level course. If you're new to running or just feel like taking it easy, take this one. [map or directions]
  • The Waterfront "5" Route is 5.1 mile intermediate-level course. The vast majority people run this one. Pace is typically between 8 to 10 minutes per mile. [map or directions]
  • The Waterfront "6" Route is a 6.3 mile advanced-level course. Take this one if you're super fast or just want a little more mileage. [map or directions]

Meet at 6:00pm. We'll get started promptly at 6:15pm.

See you there!

ed :)

DIRECTIONS, PARKING, AND OTHER INFORMATION:
Meet by the statue at the west (ocean) side of the San Diego County Administration Center. Click here for map. There is tons of street parking and since it's after hours, it's free. Do not park in the lot adjacent to the County Admin Center. Or you can choose to park by the Waterfront Bar and Grill to make it easier for yourself when you leave. The Waterfront is located at 2044 Kettner Blvd and is within walking distance of the start/finish.

Really powerful run tonight. There was a tremendous show of Spirit and Love released by all our runners for our running brothers and sisters in Boston. When evil attacks one runner, it has attacked all of us who are runners. And we will respond to such evil as one unified runner. If a Boston runner is temporarily incapable of running, then we will be your legs. If a Boston running heart is weary, then our hearts will beat twice as hard for you. If a Boston runner is gasping for air, then we will inhale extra oxygen from the bright shores of our California beaches and send forth our exhilarating breaths in the form comforting kisses. Whether it be an intimidating mountain or the wide, hot fatigue of desert valley, you, the Boston runner will run again. And when you do, as the cameras capture you crossing the finish line of a future Boston Marathon, give us a little wink from your eye as sign that we in San Diego crossed the finish line with you.
