Rodman Dam Rd, Palatka, FL
Easy/Open to Public/No Fees
Join the Sandhill Chapter for our monthly weekend kayak/canoe/SUP day trip.
Another of my favorite paddles in north Florida for the scenic beauty of the original Ocklawaha River. We'll meet up at 9 am at the hand launch area below Rodman Dam then shuttle cars down to Johnson Field Landing on State Rd 19. Plenty of grassy parking, no wheelies needed at the launch sites and no fees. Public restrooms are available on the east side of the dam.
The total mileage is about 8 miles and the trip, including a break for lunch, will have us back at our cars around 3 pm. The paddle is all downstream and fairly easy with a couple of places to get out and stretch.
You'll have to provide your own kayak/canoe as there are no local outfitters. Bring kayak/canoe, paddle, PFD with whistle, lots of water, sunscreen, insect repellent, wide-brimmed hat, lunch.
Note: To find the kayak/canoe launch: On Rodman Dam Rd off of State Rd 19, go past the developed fishing area (restrooms) on your left and cross the dam. Just before the pavement ends at the ATV parking area make a left turn onto a small dirt road that doubles back, parallel and below Rodman Dam Rd. Follow this dirt road almost to the end and the launch area is on your right.
