Do you constantly quote movie lines to friends and family? Do you find yourself humming movie soundtracks as you drive around town? Can you do a James Cagney impersonation? How about an Al Pacino? Katherine Hepburn? Is Turner Classic Movies on your favorite channels list?
Yes? Then this Meetup group is for you.
I have loved watching movies since I was a kid. Back then, the local TV channels showed a vintage movie almost every night after supper. I would avidly scan the TV section of the weekly Sunday paper to see what was showing on what night and what channel. The Great Escape. King Kong. Rear Window. West Side Story. Spartacus. Rebel Without a Cause. Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Roman Holiday. Grapes of Wrath. Duck Soup. Gaslight. The African Queen. A Bond Movie! The Searchers. Patton. You name it. I watched ‘em all! When I grew older, I saw many of the great 70’s and 80’s movies at the cinema. French Connection. Jaws. All the President's Men, 2001. Butch Cassidy. Apocalypse Now. Star Wars. Annie Hall. Alien. Young Frankenstein. Chinatown. Raiders. Fish Called Wanda. Die Hard. Ran. Spinal Tap. The Right Stuff. Terms of Endearment. Platoon. Beverly Hills Cop. The Thing. Chariots of Fire. Ferris Bueller. Raging Bull. I loved ‘em all!
This is a club that will celebrate, explore, rediscover and enjoy all types of films from the 20th century with a strong focus on Hollywood productions. Vintage Silent, Classic Drama, Screwball Comedy, Ripping Action, Jazzy Musical, Heartfelt Romance, Cheesy Sci-Fi - we’ll watch some of everything! From Burt Lancaster to Burt Reynolds. From The Blue Dahlia to the Blues Brothers. From Singing in the Rain to Rain Man. From Buster Keaton to Ghostbusters. From John Ford to Harrison Ford. Get the picture?
When we meet we will usually screen a classic film, but I’d like to keep things open and fun for all so other ideas are welcome. Maybe we will also have a few stories/remarks about the film by a member, maybe a little trivia contest, perhaps some themed refreshments, or a post screening gathering, - whatever people feel like doing. It’s all good! The idea is to gather, enjoy, share and maintain the love of these wonderful films and the company of some fellow film lovers.
I have secured the permission to use a Sanford location with a projector and large screen that will allow us to show films there on weeknights. The final details are still being worked out so I can’t publicize where it is just yet, but I must state that it is NOT a theater. It is more of a large function room but it should be fine for our purposes.
If you’d like to become a member, join up and let us know in the Discussion page I started what some classic films you’d like to watch with a group of fellow fans or some other film-related events you’d like to plan.
