Tour Pilgrim Terrace Community Garden With Cerena

Sustainability, diversity, sharing and learning!  Visit beautiful Pilgrim Terrace Community Garden, one of Santa Barbara's three Community Gardens!  See what is happening in the garden now and we will talk about August, see planting principles in practice - like how to plant a lot in a small space!  Be inspired!

Cerena Childress has been an avid gardener since 2002. Although not a long time gardener she has learned a lot in a short time through intense online research and ‘hands on’ learning from her 49 fellow gardeners at the Pilgrim Terrace Community Garden. Ms. Childress became a Certified Master Gardener in 2007 and that very year started talking to Master Gardener classes on vegetable gardening. She is an active community speaker, speaking for the Santa Barbara Organic Garden Club, to Santa Barbara Neighborhood Exchanges, at local Seed Swaps on seed saving, to local gardening clubs, groups, and La Sumida Nursery.  Learning continues!  This year's experiment is tomato grafting!

She is a strong Permaculture, Food Not Lawns and Lasagna Gardening enthusiast. Ms. Childress is also the author of the Green Bean Connection, a monthly newsletter and blog that includes up to date gardening information and advice. She wrote The Garden Post for Santa Barbara View for 2 years.

Wear a sun hat if it is a hot day.  Bring sunscreen, water.  Wear sturdy closed shoes.  There are no bathrooms, so you know what to do.

There is limited parking behind the garden, where the entrance to the garden is.  Otherwise, its nearby street park and walk.  Walk, bike, carpool if you can. MAP - please see this map for parking area and where the garden entrance is!  If you need to contact me [masked] Gerri

Cerena is a wealth of information and eager to share in a friendly manner. She provided permaculture principles in a practical way. We learned about soil, watering (although I do wonder about overuse), companion planting, etc. It would be fun to have her provide a workshop event where we can sit in a relaxed environment and have more discussions...
