Enjoy Oysters and Clams from The Jolly Oyster in San Buenaventura State Beach

Listen to Mark Reynolds share how he and Mark Venus raise oysters and clams in Baja California and bring them to Ventura to sell at their gourmet concession stand in the San Buenaventura State Beach.Quoting Mark "We have 2 types of oyster (the Kumamoto and Pacific), we can try each raw and then sample one on the BBQ with some steamed clams. It will be fun to have a shucking instruction so I'd suggest that anyone with a shucking knife brings their own, otherwise we have some for sale at $5 each."

Afterward we can picnic with more seafood, salad and bread brought from home. I will bring salad and bread; feel free to bring more...

BYOB acceptable at the park!

Bring your coolers so you can purchase some bounty to share with your friends and family.

FREE parking outside the park with 2 minute walk.

For information, check out their website: www.thejollyoyster.com to view their films including a documentary about how they founded the Baja Oyster Company.

RSVP requires $5.00 for meetup; prepay with paypal or mail check to Gerri French, PO 273, Summerland, CA 93067.

This was just a fabulous experience.... learning how these two men from England started sustainably farming oysters and clams on the Pacific Baja, learning about their methodology and tasting their oysters.... The BEST oysters that we have ever eaten.
Will definitely be back to The Jolly Oyster.
    Great job,Gerri!

The owner of Jolly Oyster, Mark, was fascinating to listen to about how the decision to farm oysters in an entirely natural and eco-friendly way was a 15 year journey. He is extremely knowledgeable about aquaculture and even fish farming & if you want to learn anything about oysters - this is the go to place. And the oysters!...yum! And on the beach no less! Don't miss this meetup if offered again - or wander over to this Ventura beach park yourself! There are picnic tables and bbqs there, so make an afternoon of it.

Your original date was Jun 14th. Is this happening on both the 14th and the 21st? I'm trying to coordinate a bike ride that day with the Oysters to follow and want to be sure and give the correct info to my group.
