Hike to Bridge to Nowhere

Saturday, July 7

Bridge to Nowhere

This is one of the club’s favorite hikes. It is 10 miles RT with little to no gain. However, there are many major water crossings where you have to go into the water. You will need to either wear water/hiker sandals, or bring a change of shoes and a towel for water crossings, which takes WAY too much time for so many crossings. Please consider water shoes or shoes that can get wet like tennis shoes. Shorts or quick drying pants are a must. You will be in and out of the river, sometimes on a piece of old washed out road, sometimes on a trail, and sometimes you will be bouldering. The scenery is magnificent and there is a possibility of seeing Big Horn Sheep. The incredible bridge is 125 ft above the river, suspended in time in the canyon, all that remains from a huge 100’ wall of water that came down the canyon in 1938. Don’t miss this one, and bring your camera, lunch, and plenty of water. (Bandaids might also come in handy). Adventure Pass required for drivers.

Meet at 7:00 AM at Towsley Cyn for carpooling to the trailhead at 7:15. If you want to Bungee jump, you can make reservations for that. See both links below!

I had such a wonderful time on this hike. Everybody was so friendly and eager to hike. The hike itself is now one of my favorites. Thanks to everyone who shared their pictures.

This is a great hike for someone who enjoys climbing boulders and can handle a long hike. It takes about 5 to 7 hours to complete; longer if you stop often. The scenery is beautiful. Portions of the hike are precarious, but doable if you are a mountain goat :) I enjoyed most of the hike, but had to turn back about 20 min from the bridge...got heat exhaustion. Max was a gentleman, hiked back with me to make sure I didn't croak. LOL

Suggestion...start two hours earlier & to try to schedule opposite of other meetups. It was very crowded and we had to hike about 2 miles just to get to the trail head and ended up getting a parking ticket because there was no other place to park. Most importantly, I have to mention that our leader of this hike let us down in the beginning. He told us he couldn't find a parking spot and was going to go home, then met up with us later on the hike. That wasn't cool & I don't trust him & won't hike with him again.

This was a fun and challenging hike. As always, a great group of hikers. The scenery was spectacular. There were many water crossings. Swimming on the other side of the bridge was refreshing. Parts of the trail were a bit adrenaline boosting for me. I just didn't look down, as it was a long way to the bottom. I feel like I am part mountain goat now! :-) The only downsides were the number of people on the trail, and the extreme lack of parking. We got a parking ticket ($58) for parking somewhere that appeared to be OK to park, quite a ways from the trailhead. Need to get there very early in the morning to get good parking. All in all - a great day. I agree with Dianne - best hike ever!
