What we're about

This writing meetup is for all who love writing! All genres of writing are accepted. All levels are accepted. If you love to write, this is a group to gain support, to share what you have written and to receive feedback, explore new subjects, and the opportunity to switch it up and try different styles. If you’re a poet and you wondered about fiction, this is a chance to try it out in a supportive environment. We meet on the last Friday of the month. (Meetup defaults to the 4th Friday; it's actually the LAST Friday, which could be the 5th Friday of the month.)

Bring a piece of writing you are working on (no more than 2 pages, 1-1/2 spacing), or something you wrote before. For those who are perfecting their writing, feel free to let the group know what it is you may be looking to do differently, or receive feedback on how a reader (listener) hears your story and the feedback they provide.

Writers can give tips about how they process their writing, what stumbles they may have, and receive ideas about exploring other areas of writing. Writers can receive feedback on pieces they may be struggling with, or share a piece they love, and entertain new ideas from group members. This is not a critical writing group. It is a group to continue your love of writing, to learn from others, to explore various avenues of writing, and to meet people who love writing, too. Every writer has a soft spot in their heart for their writing. This group can help you to evolve into writing different styles, genres, and point out, as a reader, what might make a scene or setting more effective. It's a group effort. Constructive, positive, reinforcing and new ideas for feedback are welcome.

Bring your notebook, pen or laptop and your ideas. We open with a short prompt, and then share what we are working on, explore different genres of writing, or begin working on a new piece. What we share is a love of writing and a desire to create, entertain and find new ways of doing what we love. Come join us!

Bring a piece you are working on, or ideas about something new to write.

Writers - wherever you live, you can join our group on Zoom! If you have found us, we welcome you and look forward to meeting other writers. We are a lively group, and each genre is welcome. During this pandemic, we have other writers from other places in the country. If you're able to join during our hours, come on in! We start with a "check-in" to see how people are doing this month. Then we have a writers' prompt - each time being different. This is about ten minutes. After the prompt, we take turns sharing what we have brought to the group, and then we get feedback on our writing. We welcome feedback. Each of us receive feedback from group members which can help to provide a different point of view. Our group can be very chatty, and sometimes pensive. Just bring your writing and an open mind. We have no limits on the kind of writing you are sharing. It can be poetry, a novel you are working on, comedy, sensuality, fiction and non-fiction. If you are in America, another state or even in a different country, and you enjoy writing and want to explore our writing group, please sign up and join us. We meet the last Friday of the month. We start at 7:00 p.m., West Coast time. October we meet on Friday, October 23rd. Being on Zoom, we welcome those from all over. Just bring your writing, insight, feedback and a sense of humor! We all use the Zoom entry. Come join us! ****************** *Be sure to have your email listed on Meetup to "receive organizer's emails," and that your email is correctly entered, so that you are sure to receive information about the group. I have no access to members' emails, unless they offer them. And also check this site for updates, just in case. Thanks!* We are meeting again on Zoom. I will send the information out. To enter Zoom, the information link below should work for 12 months. After that it will be changed because it is a one year limit with Zoom. ****************** We begin with a two-minute check-in - what we are working on, how we did during the month, and how things are going. We have a ten-minute prompt. A prompt is a short phrase or topic that you write what you want about it. The creative variety of the prompt is very interesting to hear. Please bring a piece of writing to read - no more than 2 typed pages, 1-1/2 double spacing. You will receive feedback that can be helpful. We hold our writing close to us, and I ask that people be open to the various styles and genres we have in this group. We have a large group, and readings should be approximately 6 minutes with a 5-minute feedback from group members. I am impressed by the great feedback other writers give and receive. The feedback is insightful, helpful, and useful. You are welcome to stick around and chat afterwards. If you are writing a novel or long story, please choose a portion that you would like feedback on that will fit into the six minutes of reading, so that you can receive feedback on that piece.
