We decided to head up 116 and use backroads to do scaggs and then down the coast to bodega for lunch.
Smart move as the heat was not an issue..the coast was quite cool actually. We ate at the boathouse ( Joe's idea) and the food was great! I had fish tacos that were awesome.
Other that the traffic on the coast(i got impatient and blasted by quite a few cars) the ride was a blast.

Sorry to wuss out, but I can't deal with the extreme temperature. I think riding the coast on a weekend, competing with traffic, wouldn't be much fun either. I am available during the week, if anyone wants to do a ride on a weekday when there is less traffic.

I can ride on week days right now (looking for work). If you want to do a week day ride, let me know.

I went on a ride yesterday with Julie - there were a few cool pockets on 116, home by 10:45 and it was getting pretty hot already in Santa Rosa. Was going to go out later to test out my cool vest and didn't have the gumption.

I ride for fun and enjoyment. Riding in extreme heat or cold or rain is not fun and I don’t enjoy it.

Sorry guys! I am also bailing out. Went for a short ride on Saturday and it was way too hot. Miserable. Have fun. Stay cool.

As this one of my favorite rides, I can't believe I'm bailing out. Do have fun those of you that do brave this heat.

Sorry but I have bail on Sunday. For some reason I got the impression we were riding on Saturday. Wow, second time I've done this Jennefer might put me on probation now!

Gosh all of sonoma county might be out! I'm still window shopping for a more bumpy road friendly bike.

There are a few low water crossings on Berryessa - Knoxville rd,
but this route is Pope Valley/Butts Canyon. We also have the option of 175 over to Hopland - Mountain House rd.- Dutcher Creek.

As long as we stop and swim, I am in. Otherwise, the coast might be a better run this weekend. Hot hot hot!!!

Jennifer! What happen to all the women riders? This riding with all these dudes is boring! I guess I need to start recruiting some more women. Does that job pay anything?

Since it is going to be very hot i am going to get a cooling vest from cycle gear and i am suggesting everyone who wants to bring a swimsuit and towel(and water of course). We can take a dip in the lake to cool off..and we can decide what to do from there. If i have time to i will put together a coast ride in case the group wants to hit the coast instead..i am just wanting to avoid the traffic on the coast as everyone will be there.

Cooling vests work too well sometimes. I had mine on in Utah a couple of weeks ago and actually got cold. It needs to be at least 95 degrees or you'll get cold....mine has sleeves too. When you're HOT you're HOT! I think I'm bringing a friend with me.

I can't ride on Sunday - don't suppose anyone wants to ride a little on Saturday?

    June 26, 2013

Sure I'll do a ride on Saturday. I've another buddy that might like to ride too if he doesn't "have to play pickle ball" with girlfriend!

Butts Canyon Road from Pope Valley to Middletown is in great shape! Nice long sweepers. I moved to Pope Valley in '79 on a Kawasaki KZ650. And you get to see Lido's Hubcap Ranch... ;o)

berryessa-knoxville rd. there are about 7 low points in the rd that in the winter and early spring have about 1/2 to 2 inches of water.
the road is very bumpy and turns into morgan valley rd where you go through the tunnel and the road smooths out and drops you into lower lake.

Being a dirt ike rider myself it sounds like it might be a bit much for some..i dont want anyone dumping or getting stuck on my lead....got any other ideas to modify the route or do you think it will be ok? I would be fine with it myself..but...

the route will be fine. i did not see the route when i inquired about the water crossings...i see that portion is not included. there are a lot of big sweepers that are really fun to blast through...so far the weather looks perfect for a pope valley run.
