Please join us on Thursday, Oct 11. Whether you like to compete or not you will be supporting our photographers during this month's competition. And, it’s always a pleasure to see some of the best photographic art by our members.
Our judge is this month is Dan Katzman, a favorite and is highly rated at the Santa Rosa Photographic Society. He is also a long-time photo judge with experience in local, regional, national and international competitions.
He has been a professional fine art photographer who specialized in large format for public space displays. His work is in the permanent collections of the National Park Services and placed at several corporations including Kaiser Permanente. His images have appeared in national media and on book covers.
He has also had the good fortune of being taught by award winning photographers in the art of architectural, landscape, commercial tabletop
and portrait photography.
Dan believes that photography is an art form that can be closely related to European painting and drawing. The critique can be as appreciated
as classical art. His judging philosophy is to make judging as educational as possible. The primary focus of judging should be on teaching while
offering ideas on how to take the image to the next level.
The use of light and the emotional aspects of storytelling are as important as composition. When technical issues with an image arise, he focus on the most important to give the beginning photographer a better chance to remember the comments and to put them to use when in the field.
