Phenomenology
Presented by Chris Goad Phenomenology is the study of the structure of experience from the first-person standpoint. A precept of phenomenology is the idea that experience is nearly always experience OF something, via its appearance (not restricted to the visual aspect, nor even to the sensory - things can appear in dreams, memories, hallucinations, anticipations, and so forth). Hence the name of the field (phenomenon being the philosophical term for appearance). I will present an overview of phenomenology, concentrating on Kant and Husserl. The main reading is https://medium.com/@eutelic/a-brief-overview-of-phenomenology-96cd92be8715 For those who would like a slightly deeper dive, I recommend sections 3(a), 3(b), and 3(c) of http://www.iep.utm.edu/huss-int/#SH3a

What we're about

Welcome to the Santa Fe Philosophical Society's meetup page! This meetup is for anyone interested in discussing philosophical topics. Our official meetups are held on a monthly basis and focused on a particular topic or text. Check out our calendar (https://www.meetup.com/SantaFe-Philosophers/events/calendar/) to see when the next meetup is. Here (https://s3.amazonaws.com/cgdoc/about_the_meetup.html)are conventions that govern the meetup.

Our members have a wide variety of experience in philosophy; some have extended training while others simply have an abiding interest in thinking deeply about the world. All are welcome to join us. Come inside, check out our calendar and discussion boards, and email the organizers with any questions.
