What we're about
This is a group for anyone interested in discovering--or just behaving a conversation about--the enchanting Sanskrit language and Indian (and Balinese!) literary and religious heritage. These meetups will start as informal discussions, but more structured follow-ups might be arranged to introduce participants to Devanagari script and Sanskrit, learn the basics of pronunciation, spelling, and transliteration, and eventually grammar. Yoga teachers, spiritual practitioners, scholars or interested laymen are welcome. This is a rare opportunity to be introduced to Sanskrit and Indic culture by a leading academic with an unparalleled knowledge of Balinese Hinduism, who combines a rigorous scholarly perspective with an empathy for spiritual practice.
Do you want to know what mantras are, and how to pronounce them correctly? Do you want to understand the meanings of Yoga asanas? Wonder what om svasti astu means? Want to read the Bhagavad Gita in the original? Then join our group to have all your questions answered, and learn more about Sanskrit heritage!
