What we're about

This group is an extension of the Sarasota Mindfulness Institute: www.SarasotaMindfulness.org (http://sarasotamindfulness.org).

Mindfulness is the practice of present-moment awareness. It has been said, and now well-documented, that mindfulness is one of the single, most powerful things you can do for your well-being. Mindfulness enables us to experience life more fully by developing the ability to return to the present moment rather than being lost in repetitive thoughts and worries about past or future. In this way, we are able to make conscious choices, rather than react unconsciously.

Sarasota Mindfulness Institute offers periodic Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation courses and twice-weekly (Wednesdays at 6:00 PM and Fridays at noon) drop-in group meditations, which include both guided and silent meditation, a book reading, and discussion period. To help build community, we offer a monthly "Brown Bag Lunch" after the Friday group meditation. Many benefit from our periodic Mindful Eating courses. QiGong and Tai Chi, our mindfulness movement classes, are held weekly. Periodic, in-depth, introductory courses in mindful movement are given as well.

Check our website for the most up-to-date information on ongoing classes and courses: www.sarasotamindfulness.org (http://www.sarasotamindfulness.org/)

Mindfulness-Based-Stress-Reduction (MBSR), in the form of a formal 8-week program, is offered several times a year. Created by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1989, MBSR offers participants the ability to develop a different relationship to the physical and psychological stress that sometimes results when we experience illness, pain, and emotional upset. Our teachers have undergone the professional training required to teach this very powerful and life-enriching program.

Outreach is an important part of what we do at SMI. Our experienced and well-trained teachers bring mindfulness training to local schools, hospitals, health clinics, businesses and community groups. We work with your organization or group to help structure a program where your teachers, students, staff, congregation, and volunteers can easily learn the skills needed to practice mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness helps us to become more effective at attending to the task at hand, sparks creativity, reduces conflict, and helps us develop more positive ways of interacting with people in the various groups we belong to. Qigong Weekly Drop-in Class - Please Join Us on Zoom

Unitarian Universalist Church

Qigong is an empowering self-care practice with origins in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is a mind-body-spirit practice that can be described as moving meditation. We practice breathing, meditation, movement and self-applied massage. These powerful mind-body practices are simple, relaxing, and accessible to everyone at any level of fitness and physical ability…they can be done standing or sitting with equal benefit. With practice you will likely notice improvement in managing stress, along with better sleep and mood. Physically you may notice increased flexibility, balance, endurance and improved immune function. ~ Nancy Saum, Qigong Instructor Please email [masked] if you have questions about Qigong or the classes. Practice Qigong here for a few minutes, with my teacher, Roger Jahnke, OMD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynbCIxTjtds To Register: https://forms.gle/9f2WzzfsYUse1vha8
