Community Gardening Opportunities

From: user 7.

Wow! A few days ago we had a call for community gardening opportunities. We now have 4! Each has their own unique traits. Our ultimate goal is to provide a Food Bank of locally produced food. I am extending an invitation for all those that are interested in assisting their community to please step forward.

Our 4 opportunities are:

1. There is a 1000 s.f. space in the Gillespie Park neighborhood in downtown Sarasota that is shovel ready to garden. It needs to be weeded & planted.

2. We have been invited to do a joint venture with the Sarasota Slow Food movement to provide assistance with container gardening in the Tallevast Community. Many of you may have read the article in the paper. This is a community that has experienced soil & ground water pollution from nearby industrial parks.

3. There is a large tract of land in Northport (about 45 min from SRQ) that we could have a great opportunity to design & cultivate. This could be a long term project. Carpooling would be provided.

4. There is a garden in the Orange Park neighborhood in downtown Sarasota that has space allocated. I need to make contact with the community organizer and obtain more info on this one.

Please respond and let us know what you are able to provide. It's a great opportunity to help your community and meet other people with similar interests. Please don't feel like if you can't haul 50 lbs of dirt, we don't need your help!!!!! There are multiple layers of tasks to be done to implement even one of these opportunities. Anything you can do will be greatly appreciated.
