Hello fellow hikers, I hope you are all well.
This week will be hiking Fish Canyon Falls. This is a short hike -- 5.2 miles round trip and about 750 feet of elevation gain -- this trail will take us to an 80-foot, three-tier waterfall.
Great Hiking trail. Not too long so its great for beginners. It is a steep descent to the Waterfall at the very end, the last 50-70 ft . Take your time and wear good hiking shoes. There are some cactus around so don't swing your hands around too much. The cactus are in the first 1/4 of the trail.
It has a cool history (there used to be hundreds of cabins there but they burned down due to a fire) with signs along the way to learn more. The trail itself is narrow allowing only enough room for 1 person to pass at a time. The first .9 miles of the trail will consist of walking through a mine quarry and after that is when the hike officially begins. Along the trail, there are many rocks, you will be walking along the creek and it is certainly an enjoyable hike. Most of the trail is in open sun with some shady areas!
Be sure to bring plenty of water, a hat and sunscreen, a snack to share with the group when we get to the falls, hiking boots or sneakers with reasonable tread and long pants since there is poison oak around the trail. Our hike should last 2.5 - 3 hours.
Please let me know if you want to carpool and if you are willing to drive. We will meet at the Park & Ride right off the Harvey st. by the 134. The lot is on the corner of Harvey and Wilson and the entrance is on Wilson. If carpooling, please let's meet a few minutes before 7:30 am at this spot so we can leave promptly at 7:30 am, it will take us about half an hour to get to the site.
