EATON CANYON FALLS, 1750 North Altadena Drive Pasadena, CA[masked]
Trail Stats: Mileage 3.0 RT
Trailhead 980' Bridge 1250' Falls 1350'
Dog friendly trail (all dogs must be on leash)
Hello fellow hikers, this week we'll go out and stay with the falls theme, we'll check out the Eaton Canyon falls. The grade is gentle, climbing only about 400 feet in a mile and a half. There are shorter routes but this one offers a splendid saunter along Eaton's wide, boulder-strewn wash, and avoids a steep climb out of the canyon.
This is a good family hike, with many creek crossings and some climbing over rocks. The hike is 1.5 miles each way. The first mile is a nice, wide, firm dirt path that will be easy for both walkers & runners. The last 1/2 mile, is a narrow, rocky trail that criss-crosses the water several times. You MUST be wearing good trail shoes on this hike and you must be comfortable walking on rocks to cross the water. The reward is a BEAUTIFUL waterfall.
Feel free to bring healthy snacks (nuts) to share with the group for a fun little picnic before heading back. This will be a grand way to start your morning and your weekend, It will probably takes us about 2 to 2 1/2 hours to complete the round trip, depending on how long we break for snacks at the fall.
There's no parking fee inside the park but it gets full pretty fast. If you want to car pool let me know. We usually meet at the Park & Ride right off the Harvey Street exit of the 134 (also near the Holly Street exit of the 2). The lot is on the corner of Harvey and Wilson, and the entrance is on Wilson.
Directions to the park & Ride:
From 134 going east exit Harvey, RT on Harvey, RT on Wilson and first RT into the parking lot. From 134 Going West, exit Harvey, LF on Harvey, RT on Wilson and first RT into the parking lot.
Directions from Glendale to Eaton Canyon:
210 EAST Sierra Madre Blvd/ Altadena Dr. exit.
Turn left (north) on Altadena.
Continue about 1.5 miles and look for the park entrance on your right.
You'll want to park at the farthest end of the lot, and we’ll meet at the start of the trail, where we will do some stretching before we start so please try to be there a few minutes earlier.
A friendly note: Please make sure that if you reserve a spot you show up. If you can't make it at least cancel by Friday night so others can take your place. It doesn't help anyone if you cancel at 6:30 in the morning on the day of the hike. Please be considerate to others who do want to come and enjoy the hikes. We all appreciate your kindness.
Hope to see you all there.
ANY RAIN SAT. NIGHT OR FRI. MORNING WILL CANCEL THIS HIKE.
