Wildwood Canyon Park in Burbank
Hello fellow hikers, this week we'll be doing a hike in Burbank. We haven't done this workout since last December and, believe me, it is a workout, I don't want you thrill seekers out there to get soft on me, besides, this is one of the required hikes to do Mt. Baldy on the 25th, so please don't miss this hike if you can make it.
This killer hike has been affectionately nicknamed "The Heroes March" by our group, but it is also known in certain circles as "The Death March." It's a very advanced hike and will take you 2 1/2 - 3 hours to complete. However, if you're a beginner, or if you don't have time to complete the full hike, you can just go partway and then turn around.
This is a steep inclined trail most of the way. There is no shade going up so bring a hat and plenty of water. At the trail head there are a few booths set up, before we start the climb you'll have the chance to talk to a lawyer to make out your will, talk to a Priest, a Rabbi or a Shaman for peace of mind and plenty of paper to write any last thoughts you might have at that moment.
Once we reach the top we will be going downhill the rest of the way on the fire road and end up at the STOUGH CANYON NATURE CENTER. We will be enjoying some amazing views of Burbank and Glendale, so do bring your camera for some group photos. Also, be sure to bring some snacks to reward yourself and to share with the group once we reach the top.
At the top, there is a bench that gives you a beautiful unobstructed view of the city, one so removed that the cars belching out smog and cutting each other off below look like nothing more than a symphony of movement; it is very peacefully, serene.
Since the hike does not end in the same place it begins, I am also asking for two or three volunteers who can meet a little earlier so that we can caravan people back to their cars after the hike. (It is only a 3 minute drive from the end of the hike back to the cars.) You would need to meet me at STOUGH CANYON NATURE CENTER by 7:15am.
Please send a note if you can help out. You can do that by going to my Meetup profile page. Please DO NOT use the global email feature.
Heavy rain Friday night or Saturday am will cancel this hike.
See you there,
