We believe that programming languages, like spoken languages, require a close-knit user community in order to thrive. Scala Stammtisch is founded to bring people together who want to learn, share, and improve functional programming in Scala.

According to Wikipedia, “A Stammtisch is an informal group meeting held on a regular basis, and also the usually large, often round table around which the group meets. A Stammtisch is not a structured meeting, but rather a friendly get-together.”

We are the Scala Stammtisch of NYC, and we invite you to the table.

Format

While most technical meetups optimize for one-to-many communication, Scala Stammtisch aims for 15-to-15 discussion of technical topics.

We discuss one topic in a month’s worth of weekly meetups. Three discussions of the same material repeat on a fixed schedule each week; members should plan to attend only one of these. A fourth gathering takes place in an even less structured, and potentially raucous, setting.

The first 3 meetups for a topic will have an RSVP limit of 15. We will take attendance and no-shows will not be tolerated in the group, though members may change their RSVP with impunity from the time of the announcement up until 12pm of the day of the meetup.
