What we're about

-Homeschool, ‘Unschooling’, or learning online? We welcome all those who are not in a full day public/private school program in/near Schaumburg or anywhere in the Northwest Suburbs. This group is open to all ages and abilities. Siblings welcome.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
-Participate in Social activities, form friendships, and find support.
-Posts will include casual park play & library meetups, as well organized events through the local libraries, park districts, and our own resources.
-This group is for families. Babies/siblings welcome. Parents will be expected to attend with their children unless a Meetup is otherwise specified as a ‘drop off’ event. Parents are expected to evaluate all aspects of any event before choosing whether or not to participate. You know your child best.
-ALL abilities welcome. Some events may be specifically marked for those with challenges, however all group members should be understanding and welcoming of others/abilities at any event. For instance: children (and/or their parents or siblings), whether they diagnosed or undiagnosed, may have sensory processing issues, anxiety, adhd, asd, and/or other physical or mental health challenges. There is no obligation to disclose or discuss this, but Members should feel free to do so in a non-judgemental atmosphere.

RULES:
-There is no ‘participation’ requirement, but you are encouraged to suggest Events directly via comments on the Meetup site or discussion with an Organizer. Hear about an event at your local Park District or Libraries? Share it, even if you don’t personally plan to participate. Know a great park? Let us know! This group is going to rely heavily on its members to help us ‘find the fun’, and there is never harm in making a suggestion.
-This group will primarily be focused on socialization and learning through play. All philosophies are welcome but Physical discipline will NOT be tolerated. While others see this as a ‘Parenting Choice’ it may be traumatic for other children (& Parents) to witness.
-No bullies allowed. This goes for both Children & Parents. If your child is teasing another we expect you to intervene and help them relate to each other with kindness. If they continue to clash we ask that you try to talk to the other parents involved to arrange to keep them separated or attend alternating Events. If problems persist, you may wish to ask a Group Organizer to help mediate. Part of life is learning to resolve differences, relate to/tolerate different personalities and perspectives and learn compromise. For this reason, it is extremely rare to ask someone to leave the group. Do not expect someone else to be ‘kicked out’ if you have a conflict.
***Alternatively, know that you and your children are in a ‘safe’ place where you won’t likely be asked to leave.
-NO ADVERTISING. It’s ok to share resources, articles, or ask questions about services/products, but absolutely NO ADVERTISING. This is not a way to organize Tupperware parties. If you and other members wish to do something of this nature together, please make arrangements to discuss these desires outside of the group/event/meetup.

Dues: There will be no dues until June 1st, 2019. After that I will be asking members to contribute $10/Family/Year to cover the cost of the setting up this group/Meetup Fees. (We hope to get enough members to cut the cost per family in half for 2020).

For members joining after June 1st, please make the payment within the first 90 days of your membership. If there are any surplus funds, these will be used to buy group supplies and/or for a party for all Members June 2020.

Most events will be FREE, and our group will be making use of resources offered through local parks, libraries, and other organizations. Any Event requiring registration or with fees to participate will be clearly marked and in general the organization involved (such as a Park District) will charge and collect their own fee directly.

Lastly, This group is intended to be Secular & Laid Back. All philosophies are welcome. This is NOT a religious group and does not have any such affiliation.
-Feel free to suggest events offered by local churches etc, however any such event should be clearly marked and may not exclude those with alternative views. For Example: A Christmas party. An estimated 87% of Non Christians celebrate Christmas worldwide. Please be respectful and sensitive to anyone attending who may have alternative viewpoints/opinions.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK
This is a casual group put together to have fun and meet other homeschooling families in the community. It’s solely up to you to determine if an event/activity is appropriate for your family. By joining this group, and in choosing to participate in this group's events/activities, you voluntarily consent to accept and assume all risks associated with yourself and your child or children's participation, including interactions with other attendees/children.

That’s it for now! Let’s focus on fun and see where this takes us!
