Insurance Statement for Schola Members

INSURANCE INFORMATION FOR SCHOLA SAINT GEORGE CLASSES & EVENTS

The Schola Saint George provides three levels of insurance for all of its official classes and events. These are:

(1) NO-FAULT medical insurance in the amount of $100,000.00; and
(2) One time NO-FAULT lump-sum compensation for certain specified injuries; and
(3) Liability insurance in the amount of up to $1,000,000.00 per occurrence.

DETAILS

(1) NO-FAULT MEDICAL INSURANCE IN THE AMOUNT OF $100,000.00

This no-fault medical insurance will pay up to $100,000.00 for any medical treatment a student needs for any injury sustained during a Schola Saint George event, regardless of whose fault the injury was.

NOTE 1: to qualify for this coverage you must be a fully paid up member of Schola Saint George at time of injury. Membership is $35.00 per year and can be acquired through the Schola website at http://www.scholasain...

NOTE 2: this coverage is secondary to whatever medical insurance you currently have. That means that if you currently have your own medical insurance, this $100,000.00 will come into play AFTER your primary health insurance coverage has been exhausted. If on the other hand you have no medical insurance at all, this $100,000.00 will cover you immediately for medical treatment as your primary coverage.

(2) NO-FAULT ONE TIME LUMP-SUM COMPENSATION FOR CERTAIN SPECIFIED INJURIES

NOTE 3: to qualify for this coverage you must be a fully paid up member of Schola Saint George at time of injury. Membership is $35.00 per year and can be acquired through the Schola website at http://www.scholasain...

For the following injuries, the sums listed below will also be paid to the student:

  • Loss of life: $50,000.00;
  • Permanent loss of two members: $50,000.00 (“member” means hand, foot or eye; “loss” means complete severance of hand or foot or total loss of sight in that eye);
  • Permanent loss of one member: $25,000.00 (“member” means hand, foot or eye; “loss” means complete severance of hand or foot or total loss of sight in that eye);
  • Loss of thumb and index finger of the same hand: $25,000.00 (“loss” means complete severance).

(3) THE SCHOLA HOLDS LIABILITY INSURANCE IN THE AMOUNT OF UP TO $1,000,000.00 PER OCCURRENCE

The Schola Saint George carries $1,000,000.00 in liability coverage. This means that if a student were to be injured during training and if that student were to make a claim against the Schola Saint George, the Schola Saint George’s insurance company would defend the Schola Saint George in that claim and could pay up to $1,000,000.00 to the injured party to settle that claim, (a) if a student were able to prove fault against the Schola Saint George and (b) if a student were able to prove that the waiver and assumption of risk document that the student originally signed RELEASING Schola Saint George from any liability was not applicable.

NOTE 4: Our insurance carrier is F.L. Dean & Associates, which can be found at: www.fdean.com

NOTE 5: this liability insurance coverage requires that fault be proven against Schola Saint George, its instructors or its representatives. This coverage does not protect a student from the consequences of their own negligence, nor from the negligence of other students who are not instructors or representatives of the Schola Saint George.

NOTE 6: all students are required to sign a written waiver and assumption of risk when commencing training with Schola Saint George. This agreement promises that the student will NOT sue the Schola Saint George, even if the student is injured while training, because the student is fully aware of the inherent risks of training. This document that is signed is referred to as an Express Assumption of Risk contract. This means that the student was told of the risks of training, knew of the risks of training, accepted the risk of training, and expressly agreed (by signing the document) that even if the student was injured (whether by their own negligence, their training partner’s negligence OR negligence by Schola Saint George), they would NOT sue the Schola Saint George. To recover against the Schola Saint George’s $1,000,000.00 liability insurance coverage, a student therefore must not only prove negligence by the Schola Saint George, but must also prove that the agreement the student signed - releasing Schola Saint George from any liability for any injury the student might sustain during training – is not applicable.
