What we're about

Welcome to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Reading Group of Jupiter (Florida, that is)!

If you live in the area, you know how big Palm Beach county is. So, the intention is to regularly meet in north Palm Beach County. We meet monthly at the Gardens Branch of the Palm Beach County Library system. We usually on the 1st Tuesday (sometimes the 2nd Tuesday).

We have been meeting since November 2013. We select books that have been nominated for awards in Science Fiction or Fantasy (Hugo, Nebula, Campbell, etc). Our focus is on recently published authors, but we occasionally select works from the 20th century.

By current consensus of the group, the organizer has been given the discretion to select the book. Selections are announced 1 to 2 months in advance. In a free forum, we discuss the book at the monthly meetup. Also, we make time for members to discuss other novels or authors that they can recommend.

Depending on what the group wants, we can change how we operate. It's a work in progress.

Physicist Jon Grady and his team have discovered a device that can reflect gravity—a triumph that will revolutionize the field of physics and change the future. But instead of acclaim, Grady’s lab is locked down by a covert organization known as the Bureau of Technology Control. The bureau’s mission: suppress the truth of sudden technological progress and prevent the social upheaval it would trigger. Because the future is already here. And it’s rewards are only for a select few. When Grady refuses to join the BTC, he’s thrown into a nightmarish high-tech prison housing other doomed rebel intellects. Now, as the only hope to usher humanity out of its artificial dark age, Grady and his fellow prisoners must try to expose the secrets of an unimaginable enemy—one that wields a technological advantage half a century in the making.
