Inflammation and the Brain
• What we'll do This Meetup is cross-posted from the Seattle Clinical Neuroscience Meetup Group. We will discuss the link between brain inflammation and mental health. What proof do we have of this link? How can we confirm elevated inflammation markers? What are the current evidence-based practices to reduce systemic inflammation? We provide handouts to relevant publications and lead the discussion so that the time is structured. However, we very much want this to be a dialog where everyone is contributing. While aimed at clinicians, researchers and others with a strong science background are welcome. Edited: We are reaching capacity for the meeting space. If you cannot make it, please let us know so we can add others who are on the waiting list. Also - in response to a recent email - please understand that this event is not group therapy for those who believe that their mental health issues are related to inflammation. • What to bring Please bring business cards and copies of any publications that would help the group to learn about this issue. • Important to know The building is locked on weekends. Please use the security phone downstairs. Scroll down to "Dr. West" and press connect. We will buzz you in. Come up to the third floor. There is an elevator, if you need assistance.

What we're about

Public Group

Science of the Mind provides a forum for those interested in the foundations of awareness: the structure of the brain, the brain/mind connection, awareness, consciousness, cognition, language, memory, learning, interior experience, altered states, and illusion. Where does "brain" end and "mind" begin? How can we understand consciousness and self-awareness? Our discussions may also touch on practices such as meditation and yoga, although the focus of the group is not metaphysics. Join other "curious scientists" to unravel the mysteries of the mind and make new friends over a great cup of coffee or glass of wine.

Our Seattle area gatherings include: public events, lectures, special talks, film viewings, book group discussions, and other events throughout the year. Meetups occur in various venues, like the UW, Seattle Town Hall, public libraries, private homes, as well as at cafes and restaurants for any desired pre or post-event discussions. The group is not related to Ernest Holmes or "Science of Mind."

Anyone is welcomed to suggest a meetup idea or topic pertaining to scientific or philosophical topics related to the mind, with or without an event date and location. RSVP for events you would like to attend and 'RSVP' your interest to support topics that might not yet have a date/location. In between meetups, feel free to contact any of the organizers listed with your thoughts or begin a conversation on the Discussion Board.
