Catching the Gravitational Waves

Imagine gravity as a curvature in space-time. Changes in this curvature will ripple outward in gravitational waves. The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) detects and analyzes these waves to learn more about the objects that generate them , like black holes, supernovae, and possible others we have not yet discovered. Dr. Dennis Ugolini of Trinity University describes what gravitational waves can tell us about the universe and how LIGO will detect the waves.

    Interesting topic.
    I wonder what is new.
The methodologies of the detectors are simple and clever at the same time.

Hi Mike, are we meeting up before the lecture? The reason I ask is that I have only attended one meetup with the Science Café before and do not know any of the other attendees.

Sounds like an excellent topic. Very interested in the lecture info. Will see y'all there.
    First meeting with this group.
And, at some point, will change that silly-ass pic---LOL
