This is a great summer hike because at the end we will eat at Shell beach and you can go for a swim! I suggest if people want to swim afterwards to bring a suit and towel. The water is actually very comfortable. Cool and refreshing!
Tomales Bay State Park Extended Loop, Moderate 10 miles 1000-ft. This is a favorite hike of mushroom hunters during the winter months (the Park permits collecting), and the dense forest tends to stay cool during the hot season as it slopes east down to Tomales Bay. We gain our elevation in two 500-ft segments, before and after lunch. We'll visit three beaches and enjoy our lunch overlooking the Bay with its famous Great White Shark nursery, where the adventurous may dip their toes in the water.
Directions: Follow Sir Francis Drake Blvd along the west side of Tomales Bay passing through the town of Inverness. When Sir Francis Drake Blvd turns a wide left heading away from Tomales Bay, you will see Pine Hill Drive joining from the left. The next street on your right will be Camino del Mar, and you turn right onto Camino del Mar and follow it to the end and park at the trailhead for Shell Beach in Tomales Bay State Park. No fee and no restrooms at the trailhead. Meet at 8:00 AM. Duration: 4 - 4.5 hours.
