Day trip to Kei Ling Ha via Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park from Ko Lau Wan

We join paddlers at the start of their 2nd day on their weekend trip..
You have to get to Lo Lau Wan from Wong Chek Pier (via bus from Sai Kung).

On arrival at Ko Lau Wan its a short hike to the Mo Uk beach and our kayaks.

Our journey back to Kei Ling Ha takes us via the Ho Hai Wan Marine Park, the home of Hong Kong's most diverse coral colonies. We will be exploring parts of the park we have never been to before and will have lunch on a remote beach, so make sure you bring a good lunch, plenty of water and heaps of snacks.

THINGS TO CONSIDER & PREPARE.

You will be meeting us at our overnight camp at Mo Uk. If you have never been there before, take the bus from Sai Kung to Wong Shek Pier. Its up to you to do the research! From Wong Shek Pier take the ferry to Lo Hau Wan (NOT Grass Island - its the stop before!). From there its a simple hike to Mo Uk. The kayaks will be on the beach. So will we no doubt.

Bring your lunch, some water and a dry bag as you will be taking all your clothes with you in the kayak. The end of the trip is at Kei Ling Ha where the 299 bus will take you to Sha Tin or Sai Kung. There is a place to change, but no showers.

If the weather is cool, bring a fleece to paddle in.

Stunning weather again. I love these winter days! Blue skies, warm sun, perfect temperature for paddling. Made it to Port Island this trip for a tranquil scenic lunch. Fabulous people as always.

Hi Dave, if it is chilly this weekend, could I borrow or hire a wetsuit? XS size if you have one.

Hi Chengyee, are you wanting to go for a swim? If so you will probably want a wetsuit. If not then a wetsuit is highly undesirable to paddle in. In a kayak you are totally protected from the water and its cooling effect. All you need is a fleece jumper and a light windproof jacket. Your lifejacket provides an amazing amount of insulation as well. If its really cold I wear a pair of tracksuit pants or wind proof long pants in the kayak as well but usually shorts are enough as it is completely enclosed. The time you need to keep warm is after you get out of teh kayak, so a 15l drybag to carry your warm clothes for the end of teh trip is essential.

Hi Imran, the 94 goes from Sai Kung bus station (double decker). It terminates at Wong Shek Pier. Allow 40 minutes. The ferry then leaves Wong Shek pier to go to Grass iSland. Ko Lau Wan is the first stop. Allow 10 minutes. The walk to Mo Uk is to the right when you leave the ferry pier. Its 600 metres. Allow 5 minutes.

Sorry Dave, accidentally deleted your map (I thought it's for viewing only and since it's not really pointing to anywhere so I closed it but didn't realize that's also a "delete"!)
