To help people go sea kayaking without needing to buy expensive equipment before they are sure they want to do more.
To showcase the beautiful coastline and islands of Hong Kong.
To promote an understanding and love of the sea and the marine environment
Sea-kayaking is a fantastic and healthy outdoor pursuit and is suitable for a range of fitness levels. Our members come from all walks of life and presently from over 16 different nations. We are currently developing a family friendly range of trips to allow families to share the outdoors together.
Safety is very important if you are to enjoy your sea kayak journeys.
The waters of Hong Kong can be treacherous so to reduce as much risk as possible we have established a set of skills that every member of this group has to have so they do not place their fellow paddlers in jeopardy.
These skills include basic self and group rescue skills, proper sea kayak paddle technique and safety policies and procedures.
To ensure all members of our trips have these skills we provide inhouse training (equivalent to an international training course) which we refer to as Part A & Part B training days - the first 2 days of any new members time with us (unless you are sure that you already know how to do these things).
Sea kayaking bases around Hong Kong
We have established 4 bases in different coastal locations of Hong Kong to make it possible to explore the amazing variety of paddling conditions and coastline that makes up this incredible paddling destination.
Clubhouse - this is our base at Tan Ka Wan (Ko Lau Wan)
We have also just created a clubhouse for our 'members' to chill and make the most of these out of the way locations - and maybe bring your family along to share the fun. It is a short paddle from Ho Hai Wan (Marine Reserve, the best coral reefs in Hong Kong) and our departure point for the beautiful Double Haven marine reserve on the north east coast of Hong Kong (opposite China)
Weekend trips - day, night and overnight
We have trips many Saturdays and Sundays of the year ranging from simple day trips to learning technical skills such as how to eskimo roll or do overnight expeditions.
The organisers are volunteers but are experienced seakayakers with knowledge of the local waters. It is the intention of this meetup group to provide a safe environment to learn all the skills necessary for you to learn and develop your skills.
Sea kayak training for beginners. As part of our commitment to new members we run regular training courses to bring your skills up quickly. These are run mostly at our clubhouse in Tan Ka Wan. The best option is to do a 2 day weekend programme but if you can't then split it over 2 weekends.
Rental charge. Members can rent all the kayaking equipment and facilities (which are supplied by A-Team Edventures Limited). The fee is collected and passed to that company. No fee pr payment is received by the Meetup or organisers, who are volunteers. These rental fees are reduced from the normal levels that they charge.
