Property Mapping

Come learn this critical permaculture skill!  Led by Karen Schreiber and Laura Williford.

Before developing your permaculture property plan, you have to know what you have and where it is in relationship to the other permanent and not so permanent elements of your property. This means getting out the measuring tape, grabbing paper & pencil and going outside to take measurements. The key to mapping is getting lots of measurements and recording them for transferring to your plot plan. This process will also give you a more intimate knowledge of your property.

We'll begin with a brief discussion of how to get property maps and town zoning information. We will try out a variety of measuring techniques, including body measuring. If there's enough time, we may discuss the use of overlays, but the goal of the workshop is to learn how to develop your own base map.

Please bring a notebook (or clipboard - something hard to write on while outside), measuring tape and pencil.  We will be working outside, so please dress appropriately!

The cost of this meetup is on a sliding scale of $10-20.  Please send us payment by April 1st to keep your spot.  You will get details on how to pay after signing up.

Karen Schreiber is a public health consultant specializing in environmental health and policy and community building.  She has been studying and implementing permaculture practices on her property for ten years.  She has also completed Transition Initiatives and Natural Resource Steward trainings.

Laura Williford is a retired architect and has been gardening since her teenage years.  Her interests include garden design and maintenance, xeriscaping and natural vegetation/water wise gardening, cooking, preserving food, amateur photography, crafts and community volunteering.  She is also raising some farmers-to-be!

The goal of the workshop is to help you develop a base map of your property. We won't be covering growing conditions or making plant recommendations.
