• Giving & following directions in Chinese (all levels)

This time we will be learning how to ask where something is, and how to understand the answer. Afterwards, we will play a game giving each other directions to rooms on a map of an apartment building, followed by a period of free talk. A list of useful words and phrases will be posted in the comments shortly. It would be wonderful if you could look over it before you come. People of all skill levels are welcome. We really appreciate the enthusiasm of total beginners and the insight of advanced speakers. And it's always wonderful to have native speakers in attendance. Please join us! We make a conscious effort to balance talking about the language with speaking the language. We learn the most through practice and feedback. It's the most fun to learn with other people. Note: Please order some bubble tea or food to support the venue. This group is sponsored by Duolingo. You can also RSVP on Duolingo's Events page: https://events.duolingo.com/seattle-chinese/

  • 多语言的晚上 - Night of Many Languages - (EASTSIDE)

Join us for a night of multilingual (not just Chinese) fun, games and laughter. We will be playing a variety of games to practice and polish our language skills (not just Chinese). Everybody is welcome regardless of language abilities. We're expecting that the skill level will range from total beginners to true polyglots. The hosts will bring a few games. Please comment below if you plan on bringing a game. If we have enough people, we'll break into small groups based on game choice or shared language. Most of the games can be played in multiple languages at the same time. Some games work best with a shared language among participants. A few games are designed for learning or practicing a specific language. Learning resources will likely be available. We're planning on reserving the large meeting area/table directly to the right when you first walk in. We'll update this information if that changes. Please buy something, if you are able, to support the business hosting us.

  • KTV (aka karaoke) in Bellevue!

    Enkore Karaoke

Songs are a great way to learn a language! If you know (or can learn) a song or eight in Chinese, come show off! (Or even if you only know the chorus, go ahead and try! Odds are someone else might be able to help out on the rest. And once you’ve exhausted your repertoire of Chinese songs, feel free to sing in English or any other language. RSVPs are very necessary for this event since I have to reserve the room, so please don’t say you are coming unless you are sure you can make it! We will be at Enkore karaoke in Bellevue; ’ll be busing over from downtown and then taking a carshare there. If anyone else is downtown we could go together. (I’ll probably do karaoke again on a weekend sometime in the future, so more people can come. I’m just too busy right now. Sorry!)
