• Serverless, How It Makes DevOps Easier & Putting Burnout on Backstreet

I'm working with some colleagues to spin the Seattle DevOps Monthly Group meetup group back up. Meetups will be held during one Wednesday a month starting on July 24, 2019 from 5:30pm-7:30pm at Chef Software in Pioneer Square. ☁️🛠 Each meetup will feature 2 talks about 25 minutes long. If you have a topic you would like to present please DM the meetup Organizer. No product demo or pitches please—we want to focus on learning, not selling. For Wednesday July 24th’s meetup we have the following 2 speakers: Speakers 👩🏻‍💻 Aja Hammerly - Google Serverless and how it makes DevOps life easier, not harder? Abstract: Serverless is kind of a silly buzzword. After all, you can’t have websites without servers. Also, a lot of the messaging around serverless tries to make it sounds like you won’t need DevOps anymore and we all know that isn’t true. I’ll talk about the ways folks in DevOps roles can use serverless products to reduce toil and focus on the types of activities they enjoy. Sarah Hagan, Ph.D. - Gates Foundation I Don't Want It That Way: Putting Burnout on the Backstreet Abstract: With ever-increasing stress in the workplace, many individuals suffer from work-related fatigue and exhaustion, otherwise known as burnout. But how can we treat burnout, or even avoid it entirely? This talk will focus on how to identify the characteristics of workplace burnout, advice for how to deal with it when you have it, and practical tips to create a better work-life "balance" to avoid burnout. There will be food and drink provided by sponsors--more information on food as the meetup draws near. If you are interested in sponsoring this meetup please reach out to the Organizer.
