SGLRG Educational Series- Surviving Marathon Training

We will be plugging in more details for this event, but it will be part of our 2013 marathon kickoff for the year and this topic will be perfect for getting us off on the right foot. Nancy Boyd, one of our awesome morning runners as well as a physical therapist will be partnering with one of her co-workers, Chelsea Athing, to talk about how to make your marathon training a success as far as do's and don't's, key stretches, muscles to strengthen and more. Please join us for a great event as we gear up for our 2013 marathon push!

Thank you so much for coming to the talk Everyone! I sent this email out to those who participated in the raffle, but I wanted to make sure all of you got the info: As we mentioned, proper biomechanics and nutrition are essential and often overlooked aspects of your marathon training plan. We would like to offer you a free running assessment ($100 value) and/or a FREE 90 minute nutrition consult ($125 value). These offers will be available through the month of January, call to schedule your appointment. Want to learn more about nutrition but unable to find time to visit our clinic? That's okay. Check out the 22 secrets of Permanent Fat Loss here: http://xemfit.com/nutrition/22secrets/ If you are interested in any of these services, give us a call at[masked]-0803. Once again, thanks so much for coming. It was a lot of fun:) If you have any questions in the future, feel free to email me at [masked].

good talk today. super glad i went! is there anyway for any of us interested in getting that excel spreadsheet that marked the mileage increase throughout the course of the training? i think it would be helpful to gauge where i'm at and where i think i should be...thanks!

    • Loka M.

Thanks for making it Kevin! As far as weekly mileage it is a bit of an individual approach based on what plan each runner is following. We have runners participating in Hal Higdon, Hanson Brothers, Run Less Run Faster and I would imagine others. It comes down to philosophy and amount of days you have available for training. Hopefully in the future we can tackle a group training plan that we can take a stab and doing together. For now we have created a schedule for our Saturday morning long runs and can hopefully get a good amount of the group joining in on. Here's the link to that schedule- http://www.meetup.com...

Wish I could have watched the rest of Marathon Man. That was really cool watching his 50^3 journey

That was great. I thought the active 3 dimensions of stretching with examples were a very nice touch.
    Thanks, Ladies

This is really shaping up to be an awesome group for this talk! I really want to show a movie after the talk to get us all really fired up. Would any of you be interested in sticking around to watch a bit of it?

    • Carolyn D.

Is the movie included in the event length?

      January 5, 2013

    • Loka M.

The talk will be around an hour and then the movie will be for anyone interested in sticking around and watching. :-)

Looks like I won't be able to get there until about 3:15, but I don't want to interrupt the talk. Is it worth it to come? Even if I just got to watch the movie it would be worth it to me. Gotta get inspired!

    • Loka M.

Definitely! It will be great! :-)

This is my first time attending the educational series-- do we need to bring pen and paper for notes, etc? I want to arrive prepared! :-)

    January 1, 2013

    • Loka M.

I know that Nanc will have a lot of great info and you are welcome to take notes. This is for your own knowledge base and we will not be tested. However for those training for a marathon there will be many tests over the next four months and the material being covered in this event will help you pass.

      January 1, 2013

    • Nanc

Elisa, feel free to bring a paper and pencil if you want to take some notes. The presentation will be a combination of a powerpoint and breakout sessions to practice a few things. We will happily email the powerpoint to anyone interested after the presentation tomorrow. Look forward to seeing you there :)
