SGLRG Weekly News!

From: Loka M.
Sent on: Thursday, December 4, 2014, 1:25 PM

Hello Seattle Green Lake Running Group!

I hope you are all doing great out there!  Big welcome to our newer members!  People are joining right and left, so keep an eye out for those new folks at the weekly events and be sure to introduce yourselves and see if they have any questions about the event.  If you haven't noticed it can be challenging enough to keep motivated and getting your runs in during this time of the year and now with the added in cold it hasn't gotten any easier.  Fortunately it looks like warmer temperatures are on the way, so hopefully you haven't lost your momentum and can get those legs rolling again.  With all the extra calories we took in over the week of Thanksgiving we should have plenty of additional stored energy to run for days.  We have some fun events coming up for the group, so I would definitely encourage you to thaw out those shoes and be ready to roll! Below you will find some of the details for what is happening with the SGLRG, so don't be shy.  We encourage your RSVP's and everyone is welcome at our events.  Hope to see you out there running!

Save the Date! This years Seattle Green Lake Running Group Holiday Party will be next year, so be sure to mark your calendars for January 3rd!  The plans are in motion and this looks to be our best group holiday celebration yet.  Jeff Duncan will be catering the event for us, which means there will be some really great food!  Keep an eye on the facebook page and the weekly email for updates.  An event page will be created soon and we will be collecting RSPV's for the event soon.  Space is limited so don't wait too long to decide if you want to attend.

Seattle Green Lake Running Group AWARDS! It is time to think back on 2014 and scroll through all the amazing running group memories and vote!  For the 2nd year in a row we'll be recognizing some of the folks with the coveted SGLRG Award!  With so many members in the group it is fun to celebrate each other a bit.  There are so many of you doing great things out there and this is just one of the ways that we'd like to try and acknowledge that.  Lisa Barragan is leading this and if you have award categories you would like to see added for next year please let her or I know.  Get your votes in this month and then come to the holiday party to see who won!  click here to vote

2014 SGLRG Adopted Family- This is the 3rd year SGLRG is adopting a family and we’ve chosen a local family of 4 with close connections to SGLRG. They lost their husband/father to brain cancer three months ago and our main goal is to supply the wife/mother and their 3 kids with a great holiday meal, some winter essentials and a few items off their wish list. The kids are 15, 13 and 4.
We’re halfway to our $350 goal and would appreciate your support! Cash donations can be given at any of our runs; simply give your donation to any of our fundraising committee members (Angel LaMar, Amy Yeh, Kirstin Ward or Jamie Newbold) or the event host. As if we needed an extra reason to support this great cause, each $5 donation earns you a entry into a raffle for a free pair of shoes at RoadRunner Sports!
Donations will be accepted until Friday, December 12th. Thanks in advance for your generous support! If you are more comfortable purchasing a gift off of the families list please reach out to Angel, Amy, Kirstin & Jamie and they can let know what items they have requested.  Please bring your donations to any of our weekly events and our event hosts can collect those and pass them along to our Holiday Family team.  Thanks Everyone!                                                     ~Jamie

Seattle Marathon! This weekends Seattle Half & Full Marathon ended up being one of the coldest weekends of the year.  The incredible thing is about this is how many members we had participating as racers, pacers, volunteers and cheer squad members.  I always hear people say how much they dislike the Seattle Marathon because of the time of the year, but it was awesome to see how many of you rally to get involved and add to the energy.  I think the timing of the race is perfect.  It can be really challenging to keep that motivation up to train once it gets cold, dark and wet out and this race is a nice little carrot to keep moving.              -Congratulations to all of our first time half marathon finishers!!!!  I know Hallie was one of them!                                                                                                                                         -We also had a group that came out week in and week out on Saturday mornings to build up for the full marathon (Melody, Vance and Karen!), so big shout out to everyone that ran there first fulls!                                                                                                                              -Thank you again to the Cheer Squad for provide a big boost at mile 12/25!  I know I definitely benefited and really appreciate you all being out there in the cold and providing some great energy!                                                                                                                           -Big shout out to Desiree, Danielle, Julie & Betsy for all of their hard work in organizing the pace team for the race and everything that went into the expo pacer booth!                             -We had 64 amazing pacers out on the course on Sunday and it was super freezing.  Not only did they do an amazing of of keeping their pace on the course, but they were also friendly, smiling and provided tons of encouragement!  You guys are awesome!!!!                         -Quadzilla! We had 4 members from the group that spent their holiday weekend running 4 marathons in 4 days!  Amy, Ben, David and Crystal did it!  I'm not sure how, but they did it!  Also a big shout out to those Quaduki folks from the group that ran for half marathons in 4 days!!!  I was thinking about how uncomfortable it was walking on Monday and Tuesday and was really happy to have only run one half.  You all are awesome!

Spring Marathon Kick off! Next Thursday night at 6:15pm, John DeForest and Co. will be leading a discussion on marathoning for any of you that are interested.  It will be at Road Runner Sports in the back of the store and they will have talking points, but are also happy to field any and all questions as well.  This is a great time to be getting organized and to get all of your ducks in a row for that next 26.2 build up.

Lake Sammamish 12 Week Beginner Half Marathon Training! What do your fitness plans look like for 2015?  How would you like to establish some running consistency and train for a half marathon?  Everyone is welcome to participate, but we will have a 12 week beginner half marathon training plan to target our members that are newer to running, getting back into it after being injured or perhaps trying to get back into shape.  We have a training plan that we'll be following and hope that participants can come out and join in for those weekly group runs that work for their schedules.  It is a great way to meet other runners from the group and find new running partners to keep you coming back for more.  The training kicks off on Dec 15th and we have two awesome training leaders to help you along the way.  Kathy & Catherine are both really fired up for this training to get under way and definitely will be relying on a lot of you to come out and keep them excited. Mo & Dexter will be providing additional training support as well, so plenty of awesome resources to keep this training rolling!  The Lake Sammamish Half Marathon is on March 7th and has sold out the last couple of years, so be sure to register sooner than later if you are interested.

Road Runner Sports Holiday Party! Next Tuesday night from 6-8pm Road Runner Sports is having their Holiday Party and you all are invited! They will be starting off with a lap around the lake at 6pm and then bringing the party into the store.  Here are some highlights:
+spend $100 and get a ticket to win a Nike Flash Shield jacket ($399.99 value!)
+25% off your purchase over $145
+$100 prize ugly sweater contest
+lots of rad raffle prizes

SGLRG Race Recommendation Team / Race Pick of Month for January- The Rain Run

Recently the leadership team decided to form a SGLRG Race Recommendation Committee.  This group will try and provide a location that members can look to find any entry discounts we’re aware of, and provide SGLRG Race Picks of the Month, which might help organize larger groups at races, making for larger SGLRG fun!  We will be looking at trying to identify both a Half/ Full Marathon pick, as well as a 5-15K pick each month.  We have the team and are now determining the logistics and how we are going to make this all “user friendly”, so more detailed information on our goals will be coming in future newsletters, but we wanted to announce that the first SGLRG Race Pick of the Month is for January’s as the Rain Run on January 24 Starting at Marymoor Park.  At this time we haven’t identified a shorter run to recommend for January due to the minimal amount of choices in that month.  So RSVP on the Meetup Event << http://www.meetup.com/Seattle-Greenlake-Running-Group/events/218913501/>>  if you plan on running it.  Registration goes up $5 at the end of this month.                             ~Steve

10th Annual Birch Bay International Road Race 30K/15K, March 28, 2015 Birch Bay Washington- here's a chance for SGLRG to represent the US in the 10th Annual International Running Club Challenge! For the last 9 years Pacific Road Runners, Runners Den, and Running Room from Canada have won the club challenge. Now is the chance to Seattle Green Lake Running Group to bring the trophy back to the US. Number of participants and age-group finishes count towards the prize. Everyone contributes.
Connie Hull has created a SGLRG team and would love you to join! The more the merrier and it would be great to have a ton of you representing the group!
Birch Bay Road Race is a flat, fast scenic running event along the coast and in the woods 30 miles north of Bellingham. The race features medals, tech shirts, hot post race food and the usual Total Health Events quality. Timed for people training for the May half and full marathons it offers a 3/4 distance event under race conditions. The 30K (18.6miles) is especially timed for those training for the Vancouver, Tacoma, Whidbey Island or Capital City marathons.

Hello Runners,
Thank you for letting us come and give out samples of our low FODMAP protein bars last month at your running group!  Our first batch of bars is ready for purchase online.
We wanted to offer your group a special discount as a thank you.  The coupon is good for 10% off the purchase price.  We also regularly offer 10% off if you buy 2 or more boxes at one time, so we welcome you to take advantage of both discounts at this time.
To purchase your bars, just go to Nicerfoods.com, then to Shop- Our shop, then add bars to your cart. When you are checking out, simply type in the coupon code "nicerunner" which will give you your discount. Currently, we have one flavor, the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, which is the sample flavor we gave you, but more flavors are on the way!

Your coupon is good until February 1st, 2015.
Many of you inquired about whether our bars will be available in stores.  Unfortunately, they are only available online for now, but it is definitely within our goals to get them into local stores. Part of our Kickstarter fundraising project was to get money for more "professional looking" wrappers so that we can approach stores with them.  Our Kickstarter was funded successfully so we're on our way to meeting that goal!

As we promised, we won't be sending you any other junky emails to clog up your inbox so this will be it! If you know of anyone else in your group we missed who would be interested in these bars, please feel free to share this email or coupon with them.  Also, if you'd like to stay up to date as to when more flavors are available or when these bars hit the stores, please sign up for our email list on Fodmapbar.com.
Thanks again,
Kate and Jesse Watson
