Seattle MEUG June Meetup

  • Jun 18, 2014 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This Month, Avichal Singh, one of our leading contributors will be sharing what he is doing with PowerBI in MS Learning Experiences. From the early details he shared with me, sounds like some really interesting stuff, doing miss out!

More details to come as we get closer to the event date.

DO NOTE - LOCATION WILL BE BUILDING 37, ROOM 1701 / Washington

The building requires a Microsoft badge to enter. We do a pretty good job watching the door, but if you are waiting to get in for more than a couple of minutes (or if you arrive late) we will provide a contact number the day of the event so you have someone to call.

Join or login to comment.

    I asked one of my consultants over in Online Services about the Text Analysis / Social Sentiment tools she is using, here is her response;

It really depends upon the depth of analysis and research needed …

There are “ad hoc” tools that can help you listen and monitor what’s going on “right now”, and can also help you actively engage with the people talking about your initiative. Sprinklr (they have a “Listening” segment that you can use as an add-on)

    Spredfast

    HootSuite

Sysomos MAP (less good at “engagement”, more of an ad hoc listening)

Simply Measured (this is a social channel measurement tool that also will do ad hoc keyword listening)

These are the ones that look farther back in time and surface more “related” and additional conversation threads so you’re not looking at just one, individual topic:

    Crimson Hexagon
    NetBase
    Visible (not my preferred option)
Sysomos Heartbeat (less ad hoc, you use MAP for that)

    Ah...adding some more
    - "Revolution in slow motion": Paradox, great tool but no-one really knows
Users sluggish to change - used to doing things in Excel the old way
    - Challenges around companies not having Excel 2013. Hard to convince the right people to buy it
    - Security: Row level security or using the USERNAME DAX Function

Also some other random notes from the meeting:
Question: Elevator Pitch: how to craft an elevator pitch for Power BI? For this User Group?
Question: Text analytics in Microsoft toolset?

How to enable/disable PowerPivot (and other Power BI) Add Ins:
Start Power Pivot in Microsoft Excel 2013 add-in

p.s. : Power Query is still a separate download and does not come bundled with Excel

Attendance was low, but the story and after-action was great!

Folks, I will be sharing my story with you for our next meeting. You can preview a summary, at my blog post here
    http://www.powerpivotpro.com/2013/09/my-power-pivot-journey-personal-team-organizational-bi/
But I'll have the opportunity to go in a lot more detail and share examples. And of course you can ask questions. The key message is, "Excel Pros" can do a lot more now than ever imagined!
