Bullock's Permaculture Homestead 1-day tour

  • Jul 7, 2013 · 1:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to tour one of the world-class permaculture homesteads in the northern hemisphere - and it just happens to be in our back yard! The Bullock brothers have been developing their family homestead for 30 years, and this tour will give you an overview of the many projects they have attempted - some successes and of course some failures - in that time. They continue to increase their development of the land, so we will have the opportunity to see established plantings and mature systems as well as new plantings and baby ideas. They also have a wonderful plant nursery containing rare and unusual 'useful plants' that are ideally suited for the PNW bioregion. We plan to join them at 1pm for a community-wide potluck, and then enjoy our 3-hour tour. The tour costs $150 total for up to 10 people, and then an additional $15 per person after that - let's get a big group so the costs go down for everyone! Some carpooling available.

I had a fantastic time; as much meeting the group as the tour.

*Thank You* Laura for focusing this meetup and doing such a fantastic job sorting out carpools & making it so smooth.

North Seattle. Picking people up in Ballard & north...Bellevue is a bit far for me, Jyoti. Sorry. If you can get to the U-District....

I'm leaving the web for a couple hours: phone seattle 39zero ninetoothree4 if you think you can get to the u-district or along the i-5 corridor.

Anita - are you still in the same building?

      July 6, 2013

    • Anita M.

Yes, 3033 California Ave SW #312 right next to the McDonald's which is across from PCC.

Hi, all you permaculturists! Tomorrow is the big day, and I'm trying to get a firm count on how many are planning to attend, and where everyone is coming from - I have a few stray carpoolers who would like rides. My cel number is two oh six, three six nine, seventy five ninety. Also, please bring a potluck creation to share if you plan to attend that, and bring your $15 in cash per person!

Micheal & Jen & I are going. If people are smallish & don't mind being cozy, I have room for two more (ford focus) North Seattle.

Phew! I could probably power through to arrange a ride, but I'm exhausted from other activities this week and it's not even Sunday yet. Thank you, and I hope everyone has a fantastic experience!

    July 5, 2013

    • Laura S.

I was planning to pick you up, Shawna - I rearranged stuff so I'd have room in my car. I think you live by me in the south end, right? Let me know if you change your mind.

Hang in there, folks - we have another 7 people joining us from other lists besides this Meetup group. For those of you needing a ride, stay in touch. My phone number is two oh six, three six nine, seven five nine zero. I want to get everyone there!

  • Shawna H.

My "yes" is a "maybe" depending on if I can ride with someone driving from Seattle Proper (I am in the Central District and am car-less).

Shawna. 'Azafran' is driving up and may be open to a carpool.

Hey, Randy - two things: one is I have an additional 7 people that have expressed interest outside of this Meetup forum, so that takes us to 14 people. Two: if you can drive, can you take two other people - one near Northgate and one from Ballard? Let me know, okay? Two oh six, three six nine, seven five nine zero. Looking forward to meeting you!

  • Azafran

I'll take the 10:30 ferry over and hope to hitch a ride with Laura.

    • Laura S.

Hey, Azafran - can you take anyone else with you? We have several that need a ride. Please call me if you could - two oh six, three six nine, seven five nine zero. Thanks!

Getting onto Orcas can be a bit of a challenge; here's the link for the ferry schedule from outside of Anacortes http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Ferries/Schedule/ScheduleDetail.aspx?tripdate=20130707&departingterm=1&arrivingterm=15&roundtrip=true
I will be taking the 10:30 boat, which will get me to Orcas by 11:25. If you don't want to enjoy the potluck you can catch the 12:35 boat which will get you on the island by 1:45. I have room in my van for 3 more riders from Seattle; I can ferry probably 4-5 more folks to the Bullock's from the Orcas side, but you'll be sitting on the floor, not in a seat. Livin' dangerous!

Sounds suspiciously like a plan, Laura. : ) How many people do you have, thus far. We need to email BPH to let them know how many are going to the potluck and how many to the 1pm Tour. ALSO, the second ferry doesn't arrive until 1:45pm, then it's a 20 minute drive from the docks...should we bump the Tour to 2:15pm?

      July 1, 2013

    • Laura S.

I figured the tour would start around 2pm - if they want to wait to start the tour till 2:15 or 2:30 that would be fine with me.

    Laura
What time are you leaving and from where? I'm in Wallingford. I'd like to ride with you.

    July 1, 2013

    • Laura S.

Sorry, Azafran, my van is already full.

      July 1, 2013

  • Azafran

I'd like to do the 12:35 ferry as a walk-on. Is there any transportation available to and from the farm?

    June 30, 2013

    • Laura S.

I don't know of any rides from that boat. We're going on the earlier boat.
