Description: Paddle the Frenchman Hills Wasteway from Adams Road to the Potholes Reservoir.
Details: This is a paddle that is not described in any of the books or any web descriptions I have seen.
I have looked at this carefully and there will be between 5 and 10 short portages around roads, culverts, and rapids/fast water. I want to get this paddle in before the temperature and bugs get too bad over there. It will be around 30 miles total from start to finish so we will start early on Thursday morning so we can make sure we finish but have plenty of time to stop and look around. I will probably go over on Wednesday night and camp at the meeting place so we can drop cars at Potholes State park (23 mile drive) early on Thursday morning. We will completely document the trip so we can write it up for other who may want to try it out.
Parking/Restroom Information: We will drop our gear and then take the cars to Potholes. You will need to have Discovery passes to park and we will probably have to pay for overnight parking. There is not a restroom at the meeting place but it is only 5 miles from George or we can make a stop when we drop the cars at Potholes in the morning. There are two or 3 restrooms along the paddle. WE MAY - get the guide out there to shuttle us back from Potholes Thursday am if we only have one car.
Camping Info: We will be camping along the way on the sand at intervals.
Carpool: To be determined closer to the paddle.
SK Rating http://students.washington.edu/ukc/seakayaking/sea_rating.php This is a paddle along wandering canals so the rating would only be between a 1 and 2.
Equipment Requirements: Kayak, paddle, pfd, paddlefloat, pump, sprayskirt, headlamp, charts, navigation gear (compass/gps/??)vhf radio and all camping gear. We will also have to bring our own water for this paddle.
Chart: See Attached Picture... http://www.meetup.com/Seattle-Sea-Kayaking/photos/14046852/
NOAA Wind (added 3 days)
Meals: We will have group meals and will figure that out when we get a roster determined.
IMPORTANT - If you have not filled out your profile information in the Sea Kayak Meetup information please do so. Failure to have a completely filled out profile will cause you to be dropped from the paddle.
AND AS USUAL - All my paddles are one strike you're out... I will monitor the site up to 3 hours before we launch for cancellations. (for this paddle the cut off will be Wednesday before the paddle unless an emergency happens) But if we launch and I haven't heard from you that is a no show and you will no longer be welcome on my trips. Please don't sign up unless you really think you can attend. It isn't fair for the other paddlers. As usual, I will manage the trip numbers based on extra organizers and the paddle experience of the people who sign up. So jump on the waiting list because I frequently up the attendees. Thanks.
