Announcing a new Meetup for Seattle Area Sea Kayaking Meetup Group!

What: May 2 - 2pm - 6pm - Kayaking Basic Safety Skills for our general members

When: Sunday, May 2,[masked]:00 PM

Logboom Park in Kenmore
6100 NE 175th St
Kenmore, WA 98028

Want to improve your kayak handling skills?
Want to learn how to move your kayak sideways?
How to steer without a rudder?
How to brace in waves?
How to self rescue?
How to assist in a rescue?
How to get the water out of your kayak?
How your spray skirt works?
Why it's almost impossible to put on a life jacket once you are in the water?

This will be a very basic session to work on your skills with some great people that have volunteered to help out. We will have 3 different sessions May 1, May 2 and May 8, so pick one session.

While I will bring loaner kayaks for everyone that states "need to borrow" in their RSVP. You will need to bring your own Drysuit.

You can rent Drysuits from several places:
Kayak Academy in Issaquah: $35/day first day $25/day second day

Northwest Outdoor Center in Seattle: $30/day

The format will be:
A weekend day for about 20 people:
People will rent their own drysuits and bring them to the session
I will bring about 10 kayaks, mostly singles.
We will practice self rescue on dry land.
Then we will practice various strokes on the water.
Then braces
Then capsize and self rescue
Then assisted rescues
Then rotate the second group into the water while the first group thaws out.

It should be a fun and good learning experience
