The Vietnamese Friendship Association (VFA) has a school which teaches students from almost 30 different countries, between the ages of 11 and 21. They have a Saturday morning program to help the kids sharpen their education and social skills, since they usually go back to non-English speaking homes during the school day.
The Social Action Saturday group at UUC is looking to have a group of volunteers from UUC attend this program on November 16th to observe and/or participate in the program (talk with some kids, and possibly help them with schoolwork) and to cook a Thanksgiving dinner for approximately 120 kids. It will be quite a feat to provide a full Thanksgiving dinner (turkey, dressing, stuffing, gravy, pumpkin pie) for so many kids, though, so the group is looking to the rest of the church - including the Young Adults - for help.
Would any of you be interested in volunteering to help with this effort? I don't yet have information about what time on Saturday this would occur (I entered a random time as the start time for this meetup).
Update: This event will begin at 8:20 a.m. for a quick "tutorial" on who's doing what and to provide some instructions/helpful tips for working with the kids. It should end by about 12:30 p.m. Please let me know if you're interested.
