Fruit Tree Gleaners Intro Potluck Party

Capitol Hill is home to many fruit trees that are not always fully harvested by their owners. In the past, Solid Ground / Lettuce Link have partnered with these owners to harvest the fruit that would otherwise go to waste. This fruit is donated to food banks in the area, to help provide fresh produce for the food insecure.
Unfortunately, Solid Ground will no longer be organizing volunteers for gleaning in Capitol Hill. However, a few neighborhood groups are interested in keeping this project alive. To that end, we are hosting a gathering to meet and discuss how this program will look in the coming years. This program needs both donors, who have trees with fruit they are willing to donate, and volunteers, who go to various donor houses to collect the fruit, to be successful.

If you fall into either of these categories, please join Sustainable Capitol Hill, Capitol Hill Housing, and CityFruit for a potluck and discussion on continuing the gleaning program in Capitol Hill.

Ironically I am already enrolled in a fruit tree pruning class during this time. But I'm interested in supporting the project and will look forward to updates. Thanks to all who are taking time to keep this project going.
