Westside Game Club

What a book club is to discussion of literature, this event is to discussion of game design. Every month, we agree to play one game, then meet to discuss and analyze its design and presentation.

To participate:
1. Sign up for the event. Spots will be limited to make sure discussion remains focused and productive.
2. Purchase the agreed-upon game. To make sure anyone can participate, we'll try to keep club games to under $5 and focus on Steam, web, or mobile.
3. Play the game. Pick it apart. Take notes!
4. Attend the event (very important!). We'll discuss our individual impressions and insights, and hopefully come away better and wiser game creators.

Our first title will be Ballpoint Universe ($3.99, Steam): http://store.steampowered.com/app/259390/

I was very happy with the event. I was happy with the game pick because it has flaws that we could pick at and discuss on improvement.

Thanks to the folks who made it out. Some great insights about the game. Already looking forward to the next one!

Blue highway is actually closing at 7pm. The organizer is looking for another spot nearby. Probably going to Storyville diagonally across the intersection.

Sorry to say I'm going to have to bail this time. Totally bummed, but too difficult for me to arrange to make it this time.

Hey folks, it's awesome how excited everyone is! We're going to host a second instance of this meeting on the east side. If you're on the waiting list or just on the east side check it out:

Man, this filled up fast! Any chance that the event will increase in size if we end up with a large enough venue?

I'm free just about any evening; the trick is getting to the city from Redmond in a reasonable time frame, what with the I-90 traffic situation being what it is.

Yes. Unless it is a Tues/Thursday, I would attend

I think this is a great idea!
One request - can we try to make the games multi platform (PC/consoles and IOS/Android) to make sure everyone can play them?

    January 13, 2014

    • Kevin T.

Of course. The goal is to only select games that are available on Steam (PC, Mac, and if at all possible Linux), web, or mobile (iOS, Android, and if at all possible Windows Phone). We'll probably avoid console games, since price and availability vary wildly across platforms.

Our first game is Ballpoint Universe, a Steam game that works on Windows and OSX.

Hey Brian, between this group and the Facebook page, interest seems pretty high. There's a good chance we'll end up doing multiple events. Check back later!

Intriguing, it would be fun to converse and pick-apart games with other designers.
