Avast mateys! Leave yer yellow-bellied civilized self at home and come join our plundering invasion of the Eastern Shore. The Rock Hall Pirates & Wenches Festival is a great place to unleash your inner pirate, drink some grog, and enjoy a good-spirited crowd of revelers in a scenic yacht harbor right on the Chesapeake Bay.
The festival is FREE and very well organized, including live music, a beach party, and a dinghy and kayak boat race. It's a very popular event that draws an enthusiastic crowd each year. Almost everyone wears some type of pirate garb and goes around saying "Arrrrggghhh".
There's lots to eat and drink at the Harbor Shack and nearby restaurants while watching an entire fleet of pirate dinghies assemble in the harbor and blast each other with water cannons. The creative pirate theme is on display with the dinghies, as well as in yards and houses all around Rock Hall. It's all very impressive to see and experience.
Afterward, the fleet of boats races around the harbor point to the Rock Hall town beach where everybody spends the afternoon eating, drinking, dancing to live music, and generally strutting their pirate outfits and gear to great effect. Some of them are incredibly authentic, and the friendly crowd eats it all up.
We'll start the day by meeting and hanging out at the Harbor Shack restaurant and bar that overlooks the festivities. That's where people gather to get refreshments so they can cheer and jeer as the dinghy fleet assembles in the harbor. The Harbor Shack is a nice open place with outdoor seating, decent food, and a complete bar. After watching the action there for an hour or two, we can walk a few blocks over to the town beach or go downtown to see the activities there.
There are festival events in town and at the harbor all day and into the evening on both Saturday and Sunday.
Rock Hall is small, so everything can be experienced by just parking and walking around gawking. It's a fun festival atmosphere aimed at kids and families of all ages. Our Second Half Rally pirates will fit right in!
Bring a beach chair, sunscreen, water, picnic stuff, beverages, and a beach umbrella if you have one. Everyone basically hangs out on the beach during the afternoon soaking up the sun & fun. You can see the Bay Bridge from the beach and take a swim if you want.
