Adopt-a-Street Cleanup

Come join us as we begin our participation in the Denver Adopt-a-Street program. The Hub Community and Service Committee has adopted a stretch of Downing Street, between 20th and 32nd Ave - just outside our front door.

Beginning sometime between 11:30am and noon, we will gather together to organize, and go over the program’s general cleanup guidelines. And then… we’ll hit the street, and do our small, but not unimportant part in keeping our community clean.

Everyone is welcome, and encouraged to participate – the more, the merrier! With enough volunteers we should be able to give our little stretch of Downing a good cleanup in no more than an hour.

Please be prepared for both the weather, and the type of work we'll be doing.  Bring a good pair of gloves if you have them (ones you don't mind getting a bit dirty) - the city has provided thin latex gloves, but they'll provide minimal protection.  Do not wear open-toed shoes.  Also check on the weather forecast, and dress/prepare appropriately (e.g. hats, jackets, sunscreen, etc).  Finally, if you have a Hub bright yellow tshirt - please wear that as well.  Thanks!

Oh, good... I'm glad I'm not the only one limping around. I'm rediscovering muscles that, with my advancing age, I had forgot a had.

That was fun--for a while. But we need WAY more volunteers for this one.

I enjoyed doing this. :) I would say the more people to help the better, but at a minimum we would need 11. One person could do graffiti clean up for the whole area. The other 10 would be broken up into 5 teams of two. Team 1 could take the north end of the street, both sides, Team 2 and Team 3 could start on each side of downing near the hub and head towards 20th. Team 4 and Team 5 could start on each side of downing at 20th and work their way towards the hub. 2 cents :)

For our first time, I thought this went well. We will try to do a better job of planning/organizing for the next cleanup, based on what we learned during this event. It ended up being a bit more work than we had anticipated, but on the whole I think it was a success - worked off a little of the breakfast, did something productive, and got some positive response from the community as we cleaned up. Thanks very, very much to all those who helped!

Add 10 minutes of travel time if you're coming from the south today, because of waiting to cross the marathon route.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow morning. It looks like it is supposed to be mild and at least a little sunny - should be great weather for our little street cleanup.
