For this meeting we are fortunate to have James Joiner, NAU faculty member of the Philosophy Department, join us for a discussion of the intersection of philosophy and religion. James' area of academic specialization is the philosophy of religion and epistemology, which deals with what knowledge is and how it can be obtained. He will also talk about the current trends in the college student body with regard to religion, why students take philosophy, how is religion addressed in the philosophy classroom, etc. James will also offer insight into establishing a secular community. Following the discussion James will join us in casual conversation.

Three of our members are attending a meeting on July 18 of the formation of a local chapter of the Sandra Day O'Connor House and Speak Out AZ. Barbara Warren will give us a report of this at this meeting, after which we will briefly discuss if we want to form an alliance with this new group.

The meeting format will be our usual pot luck, BYOB social. Hosts will provide a combination of "make your own" sandwiches - deli meats, cheeses, fixings and pulled pork, plus non alcoholic drinks. Bring light items to supplement... salads/vegetables/desserts.

The address of the event is

Should be a very interesting meeting!
