I'm very excited about the program. Reading has always been central in my life and for many years I was a literacy tutor at the Wake Literacy Council. This seems like a wonderful way to combine the opportunity to work with children, giving Gizmo a meaningful work activity and helping children develop an appreciation of reading.

[2009] FOX ROAD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Fantastic Librarian who is dog lover. She checks the students' books before they come to us to make sure the books aren't too long. ~~~~~ Positive and cooperative 1st and 2nd grade students; great diversity. ~~~~~ In media center pet partner teams can sit in different sections so students and dogs are not distracted by others. ~~~~~ Media center and office handily located just inside the front door. ~~~~~ School location off Hwy 540 easy to access, parking available.

I'm amazed at how this group has blossomed from one person with a heart for children. I'm appreciative of the calendar organization which will make it easy to jump right in whenever our personal schedule allows. Very organized, yet very flexible

Loved seeing the kids again! I plan to make this a regular read. It was funny that we had a petite little 6lb dog(Petie) and a not so petite 106lb dog Georgia!

It looks like a wonderful program and I am very, very excited to get started with this as soon as I can. I have two wonderful dogs and I am hoping that they will enjoy working with the kids in helping them love to read. The video was very helpful too to see the handler, dogs and readers in action. The orientation was extremely helpful to me.

Funny how different each location can be. This school has a literacy instructor who took us to her room for reading specifically with the children who need help. I was amazed how well these 6 year olds could read! also some second graders who read very well too!

See Spot Read is a wonderful program that needs more volunteers so more children have a chance to read to the dogs. It really helps give the children more confidence to read in front of their peers.

Saturday is just not a good day for SSR at ADR. Although no kids came out for the special SSR event, there were tots who adored the dogs at the end of a special toddler music time from 10-11. There was also a big sister/toddler pair using the library who shyly interacted with the dogs. No readers.

I am impressed with all that See Spot Read has accomplished in such a short period of time. The founders and now Beth deserve tremendous credit for their dedication and hard work. I hope that Sydney and I can make a positive contribution and I hope to be able to recruit additional volunteers.

Having worked in a library at an elementary school for six years, I think See Spot Read is a program that would benefit so many types of kids, and especially reluctant readers. I think it is a brilliant idea, and Rebecca's energy and efforts to coordinate it all are amazing.

We should volunteer to help kids and seniors with the pet therapy programs! It really works and you can tell by the smiles and affection exchanged from the dog and humans alike! We are blessed to have such wonderful canines and should share their love and be an example by giving back to those who need and appreciate our good will toward each other! Dogs make friends faster than people because they wag their tail more than they wag their tongue!
