This is our second year at Richland Creek Elementary (RCE). The school is new, in it's third year.
Laura Herman, our main RCE contact, is the Library Media Specialist. Laura observed children reading to dogs at a regional library. The RCE staff was looking for ways that work to help kids improve their reading skills and to develop in the children a life-long love of reading.
Dr. Sexton, RCE Principal, noted that their school is unique in that they have a smaller number of students. For that reason, the staff can really get to know the children well. "We are a true family with lots of community support. We have a commitment to make sure all children are successful," said Dr. Sexton.
The SSR Calendar volunteer teams will read with first-graders in the comfortable and quiet library from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. (The time had to be pushed back an hour as Laura is teaching more classes this year.)
Supportive parent volunteers will be helping by ushering the kids in and out of the library and monitoring the time the kids read with teams. Thank you RCE parent volunteers!!
Visitor Parking is available in front of the school.
Getting there: from Capital Blvd. (N) , turn right onto Harris. You will see a Harris Teeter grocery store. Turn left at first intersection, onto Wall. Turn left onto Wallridge. The school is at 840 Wallridge. Enter onto the school campus just before the traffic circle.
