As someone who tends to dominate conversations, I found this meetup provided invaluable insights and techniques I can apply when I meet new people. The tennis analogy worked wonders in a conversation I had with someone new just this past weekend.

The 30-second commercial exercise was a lot of fun, though I was nervous in the beginning. I learned so much about the concept of less being more and how keeping your career summary short actually prompts your audience to ask questions, as opposed to running at the mouth to share everything in one running blurb that leave little room for others to comment or participate in learning about you. Amazing!

Another aspect of being self-employed did get some discussion in the course of the meeting. That was how we, as self-employed individual, tend to put off actually getting started in our businesses in the first place. There is always something that has to be completed before we get that first customer. Just get the customer and get started!

At the beginning of this Meetup, we're going to ask everyone to give a short update on the steps you've taken to start (or grow) your business. Can't wait to hear what people are doing!

James, I should have been more precise in my wording: "for those of us who are single and date...." :)

As I explained on the RSVP for the July 29 meetup, for those of us who are single, Friday and Saturday nights are not good for this type of event. I hope this one repeats on another day and time.
