What we're about

Why Self-Publish or Indie- (Independent) Publish your book?  A critical question ... let me count the whys:

MONEY ... Yes, you front the money ... BUT, if you learn the ropes, about publishing, about marketing, you will make far more money.

ACCOUNTABILITY ... must authors who publish traditionally are absolutely clueless about what's going on with book sales and what royalties, if any is do them.

CONTROL ... there isn't a traditionally published author out there who has multiple titles that won't tell you that their cover sucks or interior just doesn't do it. When you publish yourself, you approve everything.

TIMING ... Once a book is written and edited ... layout, indexing if desired, and full-scale printing is less than three months. With traditional publishing, an 18-month window is typical.
QUALITY ... when authors take control, quality is controllable. Traditional publishers have cut back in a variety of areas, including the glue used in binding.
Meet, schmooze and learn from and with other writers and authors ... your goal: to become a published author! You will learn:

  • What are some of the tips and tricks in getting organized for your authoring experience;
    How to create a niche market for your work;
    What a publishing predator is;
    How to avoid publishing predators;
    When to start using social media for your book;
    How to create an author and book platform;
    Who should be on your publishing team;
    How to develop a team to get your book published;
    When to incorporate research into your book;
    How to structure your book;
    How to get unblocked;
    How to keep your sanity and stay in balance during the authoring tango;
    How should you publish;
    And so much, much more.

Are you serious about being an author? Do you know what it takes? 0r are do you view your scribes as a hobby?
Self-Publishing and Indie-Publishing Authors of Colorado is not about learning the craft of writing--we encourage you to participate in many of the fine programs that the Lighthouse writing group does based in Denver. That's what it does. FA is about becoming an author--which means mingling with authors, learning about what they do to become successful, and stay successful, it's about learning about this thing called authoring and publishing.
It starts in the beginning. You can't start down the authoring path without understanding the financials.  Next up will be creating the Author Platform and then the Book Platform.
If this sounds like the track you want to travel upon, I look forward to having you--If not, there are other groups.
Dr. Judith Briles brings over 30 years of publishing experience to the author platform, is the author of the multi-award winning Author YOU: Creating and Building Your Author and Book Platforms,  Snappy Sassy Salty: Wise Words for Authors and Writers, Show Me About Book Publishing, Creating and Develping Your Author and Book Platforms CD series. She's authored 31 books (many award-winning); 18 with traditional publishers and 13 with her own imprint, Mile High Press, Ltd.
As a publisher, she's published several books by Colorado authors; is a media personality; Founder and CEO of AuthorU (niversity)--which started as a Meetup group and is designed for the serious author who wants to be seriously successful (www.AuthorU.org); known as The Book Shepherd, where she works closely with authors in the development and publishing of their books (www.TheBookShepherd); and has been the past president of several author and publishing groups. For AUTHOR success, you want to be at the AuthorYOU Extravaganza events.

If you're serious about becoming a published author, this is your meetup! If you are serious about being successful in self-publishing and indie publishing, this group is for you. For both fiction and non-fiction writers ... all genres welcomed!
