**This will be an Intermediate-Beginner Hike and will take a nice hill to the Irvine Park to enjoy their beautiful grounds, mostly FLAT surfaces, at regular pace.**
Lying peacefully in east Orange alongside the Santiago Creek, the 1,758-acre Santiago Oaks Regional park is a nature lover's paradise. This secluded refuge offers hikers, bikers and equestrians the natural charm of mountain vistas, an orange grove, a meandering creek and a mature forest of many different species of trees. Wildlife abounds and a series of interconnecting trails leads through shady groves and to a lookout that features an awe-inspiring view of Orange and the surrounding foothills.
ABOUT THE HIKE:
We hike as a group, starting out on a trail that has beautiful houses on the left side and the Santiago Creek on the other. After about 10 minutes, we enter the actual park. We will hike on flat shady trails for a good workout. We will stop for a snack midway or towards the latter part of our hike. Plan on six miles for about 2-3 hours. Terrain can be uneven so shoes with good traction are recommended. The trails chosen will vary from week to week. A map of the trail system can be found here. Please bring a copy with you if you are not familiar with this park. This is a dog friendly park & hike, however they are required to be on a leash at ALL times as a courtesy and safety to all hikers. Please obey park rules! There will be an optional lunch after the hike!
Rain or extreme heat or low attendance may cancel hike. Please check meetup on the morning of the event and/or call Mariel.
From Serrano Ave. in Orange, go south on Orange Park Blvd. After 0.3 miles, the street curves at the end and becomes Mabury Ave. Park along the fence and wait at the Entrance. For your GPS or Internet Map program, use the closest house address of 6531 E. Mabury Ave., Orange. We will meet in front of the opening in the brown fence area across the street from address above. Please arrive 10 minutes early for introductions and instructions.
Adequate water (at least 2-3 liters), snacks, hat, sunscreen, hiking or trail running shoes or boots, a charged cell phone and a camera.

Please sign up for this hike ONLY if you plan to attend. Emergencies understandably occur, but it's never a good idea to bail on a hike at the last minute (or at all, for that matter). Please be thoughtful and email the Event Host as soon as you find out you are not going to show up, preferably the day before! I live in Anaheim Hills, if you have an emergency, especially if you are new and I don't have your phone number, please TEXT/CALL Mariel[masked] as you find out or early the evening BEFORE, especially if the hike is in South County so that I don't have to get up early, drive there and find you didn't show up; I won't hike alone! Thanks for being considerate, I really appreciate it!
