I want to talk about the weightiest books ever written. "The prince" may be slim, but it's weighty. The group will meet once a month. I'll offer some preliminary remarks, then we'll explore the assigned reading for ninety minutes or so. Every three months, we'll shift to a different tradition. We'll begin with the ancient world: China, then Greece, then India. Then we'll do three months on the Enlightenment. That's our first year. In the future I hope to work all the way up through "Capital" and "Civilization and its discontents" to "Sociobiology" and "A thousand plateaus."
We assemble on the last Wednesday of each month. The location of each meeting is noted in individual announcements.
Please bring a copy of the book under discussion to each meeting.
NB: Members who have not signed up for any future meetings of this group will be deleted two weeks after registering. They are always welcome back, so long as they let me know that they'll attend an upcoming meeting. This ensures that the list of members reflects reality.
