It was SO COLD!!! But the event was worth it....but it WAS cold!

      Hi Maribeth,

It was good to see you on frigid race day morning.

      We had a nice visit.

As soon as I got home, I cranked up the electric blanket on my bed to high.

Because of health concerns about electromagnetic fields, I never sleep under an electric blanket. I just use it to warm up my bed before retiring.

However, on race day I certainly made an exception.

It took a good two hours for me to be able to feel my toes again!

    Kickoff 5K Part 1 of 2 Parts:

Dear Serve KC Kickoff 5K Crew,

A big hearty thank you to each and everyone of the brave 14 who volunteered and showed up on Sunday morning, February 2, 2014, for the extremely frigid Kickoff 5K Run.

Each and everyone of you are so appreciated.

The children of First Downs For Down Syndrome 501(c)3 also appreciate each and everyone of you very much for helping to raise money for their worthy cause.

All of you know full well how cold it was!

It was 9 degrees when I woke up at 5:00 AM. According to Weather.com, the forecast was for 12 degrees for race time, 9:00 AM.

Even though most of us had two to three pairs of socks on, I think that we all had the same problem of keeping our feet warm!

However, we all prevailed and we were able to help out the Kickoff 5K in numerous ways.

      Kickoff 5K Part 2 of 2 Parts:

I have 4 more races that I will be posting soon. Two of them should be posted by the end of this week.

They are all definitely fun runs for volunteers and runners.

All of these future runs should be a lot warmer than the 12 degrees that we endured on Sunday!

One of the purposes of Serve KC is to emphasize the "group social aspect" and that all volunteers have an interesting and enjoyable experience while volunteering for worthy non-profits (inspired by Organizer Aaron Jamison).

Each and everyone of these future runs is being planned so that the maximum number of Serve KC volunteers will be working together in the same areas, and not be split up all over the course.

Thank you again for volunteering your time, your energy, and your enthusiasm -- some of the most precious gifts in the world.

      Sincerely,

      Ken "Parkville's # 2 Fan"

I hope this gets to who it concerns. I made it to the grand avenue temple Saturday and Sunday, a great bunch and I hope I am given many more opportunities to serve where I can help. Thank you again .

Part 3 of several to A.J.:

Apparently, once an event on meetup is cancelled, all record that the event even existed is completely wiped out of the records of the respective organization.

However, if the Google spiders crawled the page, there is a record of that page via Google Cache.

We were sure blessed by the fact that Google crawled the Lazarus page during the time that it was online.

Even though the Lazarus Ministries of Grand Avenue Temple Serve KC meetup for Saturday, February 1, 2014, was cancelled, you should still post your comments on that page.

    Dear Jeanette Mitchell,

Thank you for signing up. I am sure that you will have an enjoyable time volunteering with us.

Since you just signed up yesterday, January 28, 2014, I seriously doubt that you have yet received your final confirmation email from the Kickoff 5K folks.

If you have not received your final confirmation email by Thursday morning, please call:

    JoAnn Bushko
    Volunteer Director
    joann "at" kcrunningcompany.com[masked]

I don't know what position you applied for.

As of this morning, the Kickoff 5K website shows that all of the volunteer positions are closed, except for Course Monitors: Sunday, Feb. 2 from 8am-10am.

Good luck and please keep us updated.

    Sincerely,

    Ken

Hi Ken - I did get a transaction confirmation when I signed up but I haven't received an acceptance email from JoAnn or any instruction emails. Let me know if I need to contact someone, otherwise I'll just show up and see where they send me. Thanks,

      Hi Cynthia,

Since you volunteered less than 36 hours ago, I doubt that your application has had time to get through their system.

Since the race is just 4 days away, I would contact:

I am looking forward while I cheer on my friends Kris and Marsha. Hopefully the weather is not too bad.

      Hi Gabe,

      I hope so too!

According to weather.com, as of today, Tuesday, January 28, 2014, the forecast for Sunday, February 2, 2014 is for a high of 35 degrees and a low of 21 degrees. It is supposed to be mostly cloudy, a 10% chance of precipitation, and wind from the SE at 10 mph.

At least it is supposed to be warmer on Sunday that it has been for the last few days!

As long as both runners and volunteers dress in layers, everybody should be okay.

    • Ken, "Parkville's # 2 F.

      Hi Leroy,

It all depends on what job you signed up for and what your acceptance email from JoAnn Bushko < joann "at" kcrunningcompany.com > said.

I think that you should just be fine Showing up at the volunteer check in area at Arrowhead Stadium, approximately 15 - 30 minutes before the begin time that was stated in your job description.

      http://s56826.wix.com...

For example: I am volunteering for the finish line. The job description says: "8:30am-10am."

My last instruction email stated that I should be there "no later than 8:15 am."

However, since the Kids Run is scheduled to start around 10:00 am, some of us will be staying a few minutes over. Hope this helps.

      Ken
