Rich,
I would suggest calling Habitat's RestoreKC office.  They offer deconstruction to salvage usable materials like your garage doors.  You can also just call them to arrange for a pickup of your materials.  The number is [masked] or email [address removed] to ask about the deconstruction services.

Subject: [servekc] I am looking to donate two garage doors

I have an old garage that has been ordered by the city to be demolished.  The demolition is likely happening on Tuesday.  This structure has two pretty decent garage doors installed.  I have no use for them.  If anyone has connections to Habitat for Humanity or some equivalent charity that could make use of the doors, they are free to take them, as long as they can uninstall and haul it away themselves.
