Serverless has grown in popularity phenomenally, with its flexibility of leaving the platform management to the cloud provider and enabling you to focus on coding. However, as you gain flexibility, you start to lose observability of your applications’ performance. Having observability, with its four foundational pillars, would be the only feasible way to diagnose applications when you embrace microservices architectures and adopt serverless platforms. This session defines what serverless observability is and highlights its challenges by focusing on the JVM platform, Oracle Cloud, and AWS Lambda. It also explains how serverless folks can leverage the four pillars of observability by instrumenting their code with minimal overhead and zero code change.
